Herald Stout's book (page 160) gives the following information on George S. Stout (my g-g-grandfather): Went from TN to St. Clair Co., IL, in 1801; married Phoebe Riggs in Sangamon Co., IL, in 1809; was the son of Joseph Stout (page 69). I have reason to believe that George S. Stout's real father was George Stout, Sr. and not Joseph Stout. Here is what I have found to support that possibility. In the 1815 land survey/plat map of St. Clair township, St. Clair Co., IL, it shows a large tract owned by George Stout, Sr., and two adjacent, smaller tracts owned by George Stout, Jr. and William Stout. One could conclude that George, Jr. was the son of George, Sr. Furthermore, the "Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763-1900" shows that a George Stout, Jr. married Phebe(sic) Rigg(sic) on 10/2/1810 in St. Clair Co., IL. It doth appear that George S. Stout and George Stout, Jr. are one and the same, and that George S.'s father was George Stout, Sr. and not Joseph Stout. Not absolute proof, but one has to take what one can get. If anyone has additional information or can tell me where to look to try and verify this I sure would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
