The following obituary appeared in the January 14, 2001, edition of the (Boise) Idaho Statesman: Brooxie Mae Engelka, 82, of Boise, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Hillcrest Rehabilitation and Care Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Cloverdale Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise. Brooxie was born May 17, 1918, to Alson Dennis and Alice Victoria (Allen) Stout, at Hominy, Okla., where she grew up. She married Alvin Bickford on Feb. 26, 1937, in Oklahoma. In 1947 they moved to Elmira, Ore.; she worked as a waitress and at a factory in Eugene, Ore. In 1961 she moved to Lynwood, Calif., where she worked in a factory. After retirement she came to Idaho and settled in Nampa. She is survived by her three sons, Richard Bickford and his wife, Theresa of Norwalk, Calif. Bennie Bickford of Nampa, and Edward Dean Bickford and his wife, Sandra of Boise; one daughter, Judith Young and her husband, Tommy of Nampa; a brother, Alson Dennis Stout of Sweet Home, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Brooxie was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dorothy Rose; a granddaughter, Dawn Marie McMellon; a grandson, Christopher Bickford; and a sister, Zula Marion.
