The following obituary appeared in the October 21, 2000, edition of the Huntington (Indiana) Herald Press: Virginia K. Stout, 78, Fort Wayne, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday (October 20, 2000) at the Lutheran Home, Fort Wayne, where she has been a resident for two years. Mrs. Stout worked as a GTE telephone operator for 17 years, retiring in 1984. Shye was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church and the Village Woods Neighborhood Association. She was born on Sept. 10, 1922, in Huntington County. She was married to Donald Stout, who died in 1984. Survivors include two sons, Jeffery A. Stout, New Haven, and Gregory A. Stout, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Jennifer J. Back, Austin, Texas; two sisters, Betty Eggeman, Fort Wayne, and Barbara Paul, Markle; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Calling will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the 11 a.m. services on Monday at the Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne. Officiating at the service will be Chaplain Roger Olsen of the Lutheran Home. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to the Simpson United Mthodist Church or the Village Woods Neighborhood Association.
