I found an item mentioning Daniel & Elizabeth in a Harrison County, WV History (1995) (available from the Harrison Co. Gen. Soc.). I have a question about Daniel and Elizabeth. According to my info, Daniel died about before 1811 in Harrison county. Did his wife move to Kentucky with the children? The item from the Harrison co. book is headlined as being about a witch craft examination by members of the Simpson Creek Baptist Church of Rhoda Ward in January 1787. Members of the congregation apparently found Rhoda innocent; no punishment was imposed. She was examined again in 1799 and again no punishment was imposed. The following declarations were made in Jan. 1787: Rhoda Ward - "This may certify to all it may concern that the following I deliver as truth as I expect to answer it at the Great Day of Judgment. On a time when I lay sick of the chicken-pox, it appeared to me that Sarah Roy, or something like her, came to me with a small lot of pins. She told me that if I told of her, she would kill me; if not, she would neer trouble me any more. The same day, or perhaps the next, I know not which, Elizabeth Stout showed me some crooked pins, which she said, I spewed up. If I did, I knowed it not, though it might be the case, and if the pins had not been showed to me, and I have been told that I spewed them up, I should have thought that the above had been a fiction, proceeding from being light-headed with fever. But this I know that my throat and breast were sore, and I spit blood the next day, but I know not the cause of it, and I remember that my sister, Sarah, and Brother John, came to Daniel Stout's in the time of sugar making, and Elizabeth Stout asked her if she got home that time before her father, and she said, 'Yes.' These things I deliver as truth, as witness my hand the date above mentioned." Mary Smith - "This is to certify to or inform all whom it may concern that as I have been inquired of respecting what I know concerning Rhoda Ward vomiting pins. the following I offer as the whole of my knowledge in the matter, which I am willing to be qualified to. As I was at Daniel Stout's at a time when Rhoda Ward lay sick of the chicken-pox, I saw her spew up one or two pins that was crooked, and there were others laying ont he floor. I expected she spewed them up before I noticed her, and about an hour after, she said she knew who gave them to her. This is to certify to the best of my knowledge is all I know." Seems like a lot of people coming & going from Daniel & Elizabeth's place.
