The following obituary appeared in the April 15, 2001, edition of the Paducah (Kentucky) Sun: Harry Stout Cairo, Ill Harry Thomas Stout, 79, of Cairo died at 7:35 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Medical Center. He had retired after 38 years as a Cairo post office letter carrier, and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Cairo Knights of Columbus Council No. 1027. He was a sports announcer for 25 years for WKRO in Cairo, and was a member of Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II, where he earned the Bronze Star and was a prisoner of war, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Stout of Cairo; three sons, the Rev. Thomas Stout of Red Bud, John L. Stout of Mounds, and Bill Stout of Olmstead; three daughters, Mary Helen Wissinger of Cairo, Nan Hall of Centralia, and Peggy Berryhill of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a brother, John Stout of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Eileen Karcher and Elizabeth Turner, both of Cairo; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. His parents were Harry M. and Mary Eileen Ryan Stout. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo. Bill McGhee and the Revs. Wilton D. Gregory, Tom Stout and Jerome Fortenberry will officiate, with burial in Calvary Cemetary in Villa Ridge. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Prayers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Lung Association or the Disabled American Veterans, in care of the funeral home.
