The following obituary appeared in the March 18, 2001, edition of the San Antonio (Texas) Express News: WALLACE Helen Louise Stout Wallace went peacefully into the hands of her Heavenly Father on March 16, 2001 at the age of 87 years. She was born to Claude Clemen Stout and Irene Wright Stout on July 29, 1913 in Abilene, TX. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended Hardin Simmons University as chemistry major. The Great Depression interrupted her dreams of being a chemist and she moved to Dallas to work in the Baker Hotel as a waitress. It was at the Baker that she met the love of her life who was working his way through mortician's school as the Head Chef of the Baker. She married Everett E. Wallace on July 11, 1936. She led an active life in the church, home and community, both in Dallas and later in San Antonio. During World War II she worked in a factory in Dallas building and inspecting bombers to be used by the military in the war. The family moved to San Antonio in 1949 where her husband continued his career of service as a mortician with Porter Loring and later with Roy Akers. She worked as a secretary for many years and then became the Assistant Librarian at Alamo Heights High School in the late 1950's. She retired from that district after twenty years of service. Mrs. Wallace was a gifted woman in music, arts, crafts, sewing and life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She created joy wherever she was. She was a giving woman who always had time to help. Many families still enjoy her handmade Santas, clowns, quilts, and household decorations that she created and gave away for the sheer joy of giving. She was a very special Lady and will be missed by those who knew her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her great grandson Daniel Elijah Beaty. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Wallace Copeland and husband Fred; granddaughters, Lisa House and husband Ramey; Pamela Beaty and husband Bryan; great grand-children, Sarah Beaty, Mikayla House, Timothy Beaty and Korey House all of San Antonio; nephews, Sam Stewart and wife Joann, Charles Wallace Stewart, Norman Stewart and wife Susan, Will Stewart, and Eric Stewart; nieces, Nancy Jo Stewart Bowers, Amy Stewart Sanders and husband Gary and a host of friends. A special thanks to the many nurses, doctors, and other caregivers who gave their time and compassion as they cared for Mother. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Praise the Lord for all our many blessings. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 18, 2001 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
