Her maternal grandmother was a Parker. My mom and dad both grew up in southern Illinois. Below is some Parker info. I might have more info you are interested in; you might have some I am interested in. Contact me at 10324495@uvling.uvsc.edu. thanks! Parker, William Franklin Born: 1736, Baltimore, MD Died: Parker, John Henry Born: December 24, 1756/1766/1772, Winchester, Baltimore, Maryland Died: March 3, 1854, Pulaski County, IL According to family memory, John H. Parker came to Pulaski County in 1819 with a sheepskin deed to the farm. A posting on the Internet says that he left Baltimore and married Ellen (Nelly) Guerton/Gertin in Rowan County, North Carolina (could not get author to send confirmation) on May 1, 1797. I also have notes that say both John Henry and Ellen were born in Maryland. The History of Pulaski County says they stopped in Kentucky before settling in Illinois. One source on Ancestry.com says he married Ellen Guerton “previously married to J.H. Guerton.” I think this is a mistake generated from the cemetery that says her spouse was J.H. Guerton when I think they meant J.H. Parker. John Henry and his wife Ellen had 16 children: Betsy, Enoch, James G., Nancy, Samuel, William (born 1798 NC), Greenbury, Trammel*, Joseph, Thomas, John, Solomon, Thomas, Alexander, Miles and Louisa. In 1850 he was on the census as living with his daughter, Louisa, her husband Alexander Allen and their children John P., Martha A. and Emarilla. He died on March 3, 1854 in Pulaski County, at the age of 87. He was probably living with his daughter Louisa, her son Solomon Allen, and their children when he died. He is probably buried in the Old Shiloh Cemetery. Parker, Thomas “Jefferson” Born: 1819, VA, TN, KY Died: May 24, 1864, Pulaski County, IL (per gravestone for TJ Parker) Thomas “Jefferson,” the son of John Henry Parker and Ellen Guerton, was born about 1819, 1824 or 1830 in Virginia, Tennessee, or Kentucky. According to the History of Alexander, Union and Pulaski county Illinois History, Thomas was a native of Virginia who “came to Illinois with his father when he was quite young.” Siblings: • Betsy • Enoch • James G.—married Elizabeth Johnson on November 28, 1839 in Alexander County. • Nancy • Samuel • William—born 1798 North Carolina. In Alexander County, there is a William Parker who married Eleanor Lanham on February 18, 1822, and a William F Parker who married Emaline Cauble on May 25, 1848. • Greenbury • Trammel—*born March 4, 1806, is in the 1850 Alexander County census, born in Kentucky, age 45, farmer; his wife, Mary A, 36 and his children, Sarah 20, Nancy 19, Greenbury 18, Mary 15, John 14, Franklin 9, Mary A 7; Alexander, 6. His daughter, Sarah, married Orsamus Greenley of Ballard City, Kentucky on March 30, 1850, the same year the census was taken. Orsamus was a captain in the Union Army and was badly wounded during the Civil War. He was sheriff of Alexander County and was the largest landowner there at that time. Their daughter, Clara Augusta Greeley, married Camelous Orville Foster, John Henry Foster Jr’s brother. Trammel’s wife, Mary Ann, died on October 29 the year the census was taken. Orsamus died in 1894 in Goose Island. He married Catherine Ann Jones Johnson and Mrs. Jeruba Milford. (There is also a record of Tramuel Parker marrying Siserana Berry (Martha’s sister?) on February 25, 1866—this was a son since this Trammel died the year before?) Trammel died when he was about 59, on January 11, 1865, and is buried Shiloh Cemetery as is his wife, Mary Ann Parker (possibly his first wife, Sarah’s sister?), 1810-October 29, 1850. The 1850 census shows her as 36, but the dates from her gravestone put! her at 40 in 1850. The marriage date of 1822 puts her at age 12 when they married? His daughter, Sarah, born March 30, 1850, married • Joseph—born1809, married Lucinda Palmer/Parmer on February 3, 1831, and died on April 8, 1841 when he was 32. He is also buried in the Old Shiloh Cemeterey. • John • Miles • Solomon S.—born in 1838, m Jane Tripp on November 27, 1855 in Union County, Illinois. Their son, William Thomas Parker, 1858-1929, was born in Arkansas and died in Anna, Union, Illinois. He is buried in Casper Cemetery. His children were Anna, Oscar, and William Alonzo. There is a Solomon Parker who was the 4th Sheriff of Alexander, Illinois in 1836 (the first was in 1829). Perhaps this was John Henry Foster’s brother? • Thomas • Alexander—In the 1850 Pulaski Census, Alexander is listed, age 35, farmer; wife Mary Ann 25, born in Tennessee, James F. 3; Cordelia Jane 2 and a six-month-old female. • Louisa— In 1850 John Henry is on the census as living with Louisa and her husband Alexander Allen and their children, John P., Martha A. and Emarilla. Thomas Jefferson (he may have gone by Jefferson or Jeff) married [Mary] “Elizabeth” Sheppard, who about three years older than him, from Kentucky, on November 28, 1840 in Alexander County, Illinois, listed as a farmer. He owned property on the “Red River.” In the 1850 Pulaski County census (305A line 40), there is a Jefferson Parker, 27. Also in his household is Elizabeth, 30, Kazia Ann, 7 (there is a William Parker in the 1880 Illinois census with a wife named Kazia; could this be Thomas’ brother?), Jane Ellen, 5; James 4; Francis M. 3, Sarah E, 2; Aaron 12, all born in Illinois. This would have been a couple of years before William Franklin was born. On this census, a Jacob and Peudy Ann Sheppard are also listed as members of the household. (In Alexander County there is record of Jacob Sheppard marrying Margaret Pennington on august 23, 1836; and Jacob Sheppard marrying Mary Humphey on July 29, 1841. Perhaps he is the children’s father? Perhaps he is Mary Elizabeth’s brother? In Piatt County there is record of Jacob Sheppard marrying Mary Delila Eubank on September 26, 1861. “TJ Parker,” born 1819, died May 24, 1864 (about the age of 45) is buried in the Old Shiloh Cemetery in Pulaski County. According to the Census information he would have been born in 1823 (so maybe the census information was a guess). In the 1860 census he is listed as being 34, born about 1826 in Illinois; his wife Elizabeth is listed as the same age. Parker, William Franklin* Born: March 3, 1852, Near Villa Ridge, Pulaski, IL Died: June 15, 1923 William Franklin, “Frank”, the son of Thomas Parker and Elizabeth Sheppard, was born on March 3, 1852 near Villa Ridge, Illinois. In 1860, according to the census, William is 8, living with his mother and father (who is 36 on the census). His father died when he was about 12 years old. Siblings: • James W.—per gravestone in Shiloh Cemetery, “son of Jefferson Parker,” was born on February 3, 1846 (4 on the 1850 census, born in Illinois). He died when he was about 16 on October 15, 1862. He is listed on the 1860 census as Jno W. 13. • Kazia Ann—7 on the 1850 census, born in Illinois. (On the 1880 census there is a William Parker with a wife named Kazia.) • Jane Ellen—5 on the 1850 census, born in Illinois; 14 on the 1860 census • Francis M [Marion]—3 on the 1850 census; 10 on the 1860 Census (one is wrong). There is a Francis Marion Sheppard living in Cape Girardeau that I believe is his maternal cousin or uncle. • Sarah E—2 on the 1850 census, born in Illinois; 11 on the 1860 census • Aaron—12 on the 1850 census, born in Illinois. • Ann—17 on the 1860 census • Armilda—7 on the 1860 census • Amarilla—3 on the 1860 census • Thomas J [Jefferson]—1 on the 1860 census William Franklin married Martha Missouri Berry on October 4, 1874 in Goose Island Township, Alexander, Illinois. Their children include: Nellie, William Oscar, David E., George Franklin. He died on June 15, 1923.
