The following obituary appeared in the November 3, 2001, edition of the Salisbury (North Carolina) Post: Lillie Smith Stout The funeral will be Monday for Lillie Mae Smith Stout, 77, 1116 Crestview Ave., who died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a day of serious illness. Born April 7, 1924, in Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Stout was a daughter of the late George and Lillie Mae Rabb Smith. She attended the Rowan County schools and was a 1938 graduate of J.C. Price High School. Retired, she was formerly employed at Rowan Regional Medical Center and had also worked as a domestic worker. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church,East Spencer, where she was in the Senior Choir and the Missionary Circle. Her husband,James B.Stout, died May 22, 1985. Survivors include daughter Hazel Stout Kennedy, of the home; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Shady Grove Baptist Church,East Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Alonzo Williams. Burial, New Hope AME Zion Church cemetery, East Spencer. Visitation: noon Monday at the church. Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.
