The following obituary appeared in the November 15, 2001, edition of The Hawk Eye of Burlington, Iowa: Thursday, 11/15/2001 Mary Martindale Mary Edna Martindale, 76, of Burlington, died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born April 12, 1925, in Danville, she was the daughter of Albert James and Agnes Elizabeth Nees Stout. She married Paul S. Martindale on Aug. 27, 1953, in Burlington. He died Nov. 17, 1972. Mrs. Martindale and her husband farmed in the Keosauqua area for many years and was supervisor of housekeeping at Burlington Medical Center for 15 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. She loved needlework, crocheting and traveling. Survivors include one sister, Rosemarie "Rosie" Johnson of Burlington; two brothers, George Stout of Burlington and James Stout of Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Martindale will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel, with Pastor Ron Presley officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Cemetery. Memorials have been established for her church, Burlington Care Center Activity Fund, Lee County Hospice and Shriner's Children's Hospital.
