The following obituary appeared in the November 14, 2001, edition of the Calhoun (Illinois) News-Herald: STOUT Viola Ann Stout, 94, of Greenfield, died Oct 31, 2001 at White Hall Multicare Center, where she had resided the last three years. She attended Normal University and Southern Illinois University. She was a retired schoolteacher, a member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church and H.J. Chapter of P.E.O. Born Dec. 27, 1906 in Palmyra, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Holmes. She married Raymond O. Stout in 1928 in Springfield and he died in 1959. Surviving are two sons, Joseph A. Stout of Palmyra and James E. Stout of Houston, Texas; one sister, Catherine Miller of California; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by two sisters, Mary and Virginia Holmes, and one daughter-in-law, Vonda Stout. Visitation was held Sunday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield. The funeral was conducted Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 at Greenfield Methodist Church. Burial was in Hettick cemetery near Hettick. Memorials may be made to the church.
