The following obituary appeared in the October 22, 2001, edition of the Southern Illinoisan: NANCY ELIZABETH PETERS HERRIN -- Nancy Elizabeth Peters, 84, of Herrin, died at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Nancy was born on March 31, 1917, in Herrin to Edward Everett and Elsie (Johnson) Stout. She married Walter Allen Peters in 1942. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1979. Mrs. Peters was a homemaker and formerly worked for a short time at Smoller Bros in Herrin. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed going fishing with her sister Dora at Crab Orchard Lake. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Herrin and was well known for her many photographs of the church and various activities. Survivors include her son, Ronald Peters of Energy; grandsons, Ronald Allen Peters and James Leland Peters, both of Herrin; brother and sister-in-law Harry and Jean Stout of Herrin; sister Dora Roach of Johnston City; brother and sister-in-law Harvey and Alice Stout of Chicago; sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Bill Herzog of Johnston City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son; Edward Allen Peters and two brothers, Charles Esco Stout and Thomas Stout.
