The following obituary appeared in the June 26, 2001, edition of the Fort Smith (Arkansas) Southwest American Times-Record: HOT SPRINGS - Jack Stout, 72, of Hot Springs died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Hot Springs. He began his career as a reporter at the Fort Smith Southwest American-Times Record in Fort Smith after completing his journalism studies at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. He soon became sports editor, an award-winning position he held for many years. He was reporter for the Mercury News at Orville, Calif., The Evening Times at West Memphis, The Brinkley Argus and with the help of his wife, Pat, edited and published the Bald Knob Banner. He was also a political speech writer. A memorial service was held Sunday at the Family Park in Hot Springs. He is survived by his wife, Pat; two daughters, Deborah Bomer and Jacqueline Stout, both of Hot Springs; a son, James Michael Stout of Arizona; three sisters, Annie Edwards of Fort Smith, Dorothy Busselle of Little Rock and Joy Goodwin of Oklahoma; a brother, Billy Stout of Van Buren; and six grandchildren.
