    3. Hello Stouts, On Thursday I went back to the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Royal Library) in The Hague. The Dutch refer to it as the KB, pronounced KahBay rather than the way we would, KaeBee. I went to the Centraal Bureau Voor Genealogie, back to those four volumes I had told you about previously. Actually, it is an American produced effort entitled, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, A Guide to Published Arrival Records of About 500,000 Passengers Who Came to the United States and Canada in the Seventeenth, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries. First Edition. Edited by P. William Filby with Mary K. Meyer. Gale Research Company. Book Tower. Detroit, Michigan 48226. Copyright 1981. There are a lot of Prices, but none of the dates come close and there were no Penelopes listed. Princen is not really a very common name and I have never found van Princen or van Princess in my eleven years in the Netherlands. I did find a Martin Princen, in real life in Fe 2000, who told me the name comes from Eastern Holland, probably originating in France. These volumes at the library take their names from indexed lists some of which are available at the library. I did find a Matthys Princen, n.a. New Netherlands, but the date was not a match, 1660. There is a Tepper who has compiled lists of Immigrants to Middle Colonies. The index number for that book is 9151, but the dates, again are no match. A Thomas Kent n.a. (I am presuming that means sail destination) 1678 with family which is indexed 8760 The history of the Colony of Nova Caesano. Edmund Bailey O'Callaghan has compiled, "Names of Settlers in Rensselaerswyck from 1630-1646." Wrong area of New York, but great dates. There are other books I noted that were published in the states, but I feel certain that if Penelope was listed in any of them, one of her decedents would have found it by now. So I did not make much progress. But, later, when I was working at the British library in the Hague, I spoke with two women who had lived here over forty years and they gave me some more ideas. They suggested that I go to the Maritimes Museum in Amsterdam which they assured me would have all the records of all the sailings from the Seventeenth Century. I will go and find out. Also, one of them told me that Zeist, near Utrecht, was where the Anabaptists lived and they have a museum there now. I do know there were ALSO Anabaptists worshipping at the Bejinhof in the early 1600's and as I said, I have a friend, Ruth, who lives in the housing complex that is connected to the church. It is gated and sometimes tourists can go in. I feel very privileged to go in as a guest. The houses are really five flats to a building with the warped ladder staircases which the Dutch are renowned for. Ruth, who is American, was really lucky to get one of these flats and she got it because the older women, who had been on the waiting list longer did not want the steep three story climb that my friend was willing to do. The complex only rents to women in keeping with its original mission. This being Holland, though, they do allow male visitors and probably some male visitors never leave. Anyway, when Ruth returns from a trip to NY and I return from a trip to DC, I will go spend a whole day in Amsterdam and do some poking around. The Dutch are very good record keepers and did not lose so much to burning during the Reformation like the English. I also want to take a trip to Zeist. That would match with that Eastern Holland Princen name. It would be great to find something on paper here. Who was Penelope? Where was she born? Who was her mother? What was her first husband's name? At that degree in my genealogy, I have 528 grandmothers. This one is very important. I will keep you posted on progress.
