    1. Re: Posting of family history on public mailing lists
    2. I have never been asked for the password of my mother's maiden name, and I would not be STUPID enough to give it to a stranger on the phone or via e-mail.  Life is nothing more than the "Law of Public Information" in all states.  Anyone out there that thinks that posting a lineage file on the net with minimal information (which I sometimes question the accuracy of the spellings/dates etc) is leading to finding anyone who is living today's whereabouts is beyond naive Public info is unfortunately available on all of us, whether we are listed on a lineage file or not. Get real! Any birth/death cert, traffic violation, past due on charge cards, school records, tax liens, any newspaper articles of any mention, the list goes on and on. is sadly for all of the world to see.  Genealogy records are the small pic, current lifestyle is the big one. Let's not hold back on sharing our lineage's, when every part of our life thanks to the laws of today are open to public scrutiny. I know since I am an Associate Law Librarian......I have never had a question in the many years I have worked in this field relating to genealogy information.  But as a word of advice...avoid those speeding tickets, anyone can find out about them.  But in reality nobody in the outside world really cares who you are related to.
