The following obituary appeared in the December 6, 2000, edition of the Worcester (Massachusetts) Telegram & Gazette: Margaret J. Soderberg, 87, was Girl Scout leader WORCESTER - Margaret J. (Stout) Soderberg, 87, formerly of The Goddard Homestead, 1199 Main St.., former nurse and area director of the Montachusett Girl Scout Council, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation, Millbury. Her husband, Gustaf A. Soderberg, died in 1969. her first husband, David Gessner, died in 1945. She leaves a daughter, Judith E. Clemente of Worcester; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her son, David M. Gessner of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Worcester, died in 1996. She was born in St. John, New Brunswick, daughter of H. Marshall and Deenabell (Miller) Stout and lived for 70 years in Worcester. She graduated from St. John's High School, New Brunswick, and the Memorial Hospital Nursing School. Mrs. Soderberg was the area director for the Montachusett Girl Scout council. Before that she worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, in Bethany Christian United Church, 1189 Main St. Burial will be private at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 43 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
