    1. Father of George S. Stout. Joseph? George, Sr.?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: STOUT, RIGG(S) Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QKQBAIB/2021 Message Board Post: Herald Stout's book (page 160) gives the following information on George S. Stout (my g-g-grandfather): Went from TN to St. Clair Co., IL, in 1801; married Phoebe Riggs in Sangamon Co., IL, in 1809; was the son of Joseph Stout (page 69). I have reason to believe that George S. Stout's real father was George Stout, Sr. and not Joseph Stout. Here is what I have found to support that possibility. In the 1815 land survey/plat map of St. Clair township, St. Clair Co., IL, it shows a large tract owned by George Stout, Sr., and two adjacent, smaller tracts owned by George Stout, Jr. and William Stout. One could conclude that George, Jr. was the son of George, Sr. (duh!). Furthermore, the "Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763-1900" shows that a George Stout, Jr. married Phebe(sic) Rigg(sic) on 10/2/1810 in St. Clair Co., IL. It doth appear that George S. Stout and George Stout, Jr. are one and the same, and that George S.'s father was George Stout, Sr. and not Joseph Stout. Not absolute proof, but one has to take what one can get. If anyone has additional information or can tell me where to look to try and verify this I sure would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

It is in book 2, page 147 for the marriage of Nathaniel Stout and Peggy Monhar. It was too faded to read. I can tell you that the marrige bond for Bonham Stout & Ann Sair was dated in April 1805 on page 103 of volume 2 and the marriage bond of Hezekiah Stout and Nancy Wolf was dated 1 April 1809 on page 210 of volume 2. I have a date of 1808 noted for their marriage but I'm uncertain of the source of the date since my records indicate I was unable to read the marriage bond record. Sorry, this is not too helpful. I also note that Nathaniel and Margaret Stout, of Harrison county, Virginia sold 57.5 acres on Booths Creek for $500 to Elijah Newlon of Harrison County. The deed was recorded on 8 August 1808, was signed by Nathaniel Stout and witnessed by William Newlon, James Hustead and Archeless(?) Denham. (Harrison county, WV Deed Book 8, p. 304.) I have only one child for Nathaniel & Margaret (Peggy) - Elizabeth, born about 1824, but I'm not sure why I've listed her since I do not have any sources listed. Do you have any further information about their children? I have some further information about Nathaniel, -- listings on tithable lists, census, and deed records. Patt
