Does anyone know the exact location of the Stout home (Jonathan's?) in Hopewell, NJ where General George Washington and Gen. Lafayette were headquartered during the Battle of Monmouth? I have seen references to this, but no exact location. It would be very near the Delaware River, of course, and Coryell's Ferry in Lambertville. There are a number of homes preserved in this area, and it may be named after a later owner of the property. Any information would be appreciated. I'm planning a trip to that area. Many thanks for any tips. Linda Reilman, [email protected]
Is there anyone on this list who has Charity Stout in their database who would have bee about 75 in 1850, and would be willing to share their information with me. I have found her in 1830 in Knox Co., TN head of household. In 1840 she still is there, head of household. In 1850 she is living with Reuben Cloud and his wife Elizabeth (Stout). Charity is now 75 years old and her name is spelled Charrita. There is always a Samuel Stout living near her up until 1850 and he then is gone and my Samuel shows up in Hamilton Co., TN You can see I am trying to prove that this Charity is the mother of Samuel. I am seeking information about the family of Mary Hester Stout and Eliza J. Stout. They were sisters. Mary Hester was born December 9, 1815, and Eliza was born in 1812. I had believed them to be born in Macoupin or Madison County, Illinois, but recent information suggests Pennsylvania. Mary Hester married, first, James H. Hallford, on July 27, 1836, in Madison County, IL; second, Amos H. Pruitt, on February 20, 1841, in Macoupin County, Illinois. She died July 12, 1902, in Jersey County, IL. Eliza married William P. Rhodes, also in Illinois, and died February 27, 1899, in Macoupin Co. Information about their parents, place of birth, other siblings would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Polly Zashin
Hi, I just found this list and I am interested to hear from anyone descended from Richard and Penelope Stout. Carrie
Hi Bob: Probably by now you have been deluged with Stout and Throckmorton data. I am descended from David Stout's brother John Stout (who married Elizabeth Crawford) and from Rebecca Ashton's uncle Job Throckmorton (who married Sarah Leonard). What documentation do you have on SARAH STOUT? Herald F. Stout, "Stout & Allied Families" (1986), 3, states that she was born in 1689 and was "Single, handsome & sensible" and died unmarried. >Hello: >My mother's maiden name was STOUT. >Can someone tell me if the Stout Surname is English or German? >Thank you for your time and assistance. >Jared B. Houdré >[email protected] It could be either. Many of the people on this list are descendants of Richard and Penelope Stout, who were early English settlers. There is also a branch that began with the name Staudt from German ancestors. The good news is that there is a lot of research on both branches, so it's often simply a matter of tracing back a few generations to find a connection.
