She was a former employee of the Bowman Clinic and retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home. Mrs. Hodges was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church, Jonesborough. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell T. Hodges; one sister, Marie Taylor; and three brothers, Jack Stout, Paul Stout and Richard Stout. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Rebecca Krieger and Elizabeth Ruth Hodges, both of Jonesborough; three sons, Bennie Keith Stout, Telford, and Boyd Nell Hodges and Robert Tate Hodges, both of Jonesborough; three sisters, Shirley Puckett, Banner Elk, N.C., Imogene Bright, Jonesborough, and Beverly McCurry, Erwin; four brothers, James R. Stout, Wiley G. Stout and Godfrey D. Stout, all of Jonesborough, and Barton E. Stout, Gray; six grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; four great grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was born Feb. 18, 1910, at Alden, the son of Thomas T. and Adeline E. Davis Stout. He spent his childhood in Alden, where he graduated high school and returned in 1953. He was an agent/telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad, Walsh, Colo., Bazine, Sterling, Alden and Nickerson for 43 years before retiring. He belonged to Alden First Baptist Church and Santa Fe Railway Amateur Radio Club. On Sept. 19, 1930, he married Sophia A. Schneider at Murdock. She died Aug. 24, 1968. On Aug. 3, 1970, he married Thelma V. Harrison at Alva, Okla. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Ann Howard, Winfield, and June Lee Williford, Kokomo, Ind.; a stepson, Jerry Neihart, Alden; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas Orval, James Melvin, Charles Arthur, Willis E. and Glen D. Stout; and two sisters, Edna Grady and Vera Swain. She was a former employee of Bemberg Corp., Elizabethton. Mrs. Miller was a former member of the Carter County Home Demonstration Club. The following obituary appeared in the April 23, 2000, edition of the Winnepeg (Manitoba) Free Press: DOROTHY DAY (nee STOUT) Peacefully on April 21, 2000 Dorothy Day passed away at Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 87 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband Herbert and daughter Maureen. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter Margot Bailes of Lethbridge Alta., and her son Grant (Dorothy) Day of Grande Prairie, Alta. as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dorothy was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., moving to Winnipeg with her family in 1955. Dorothy will be remembered for her volunteer work with Grace Hospital Auxiliary and her community involvement with her church. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 26 at 2:30 p.m. at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave., with Reverend Peter Denton officiating. A private family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The lady doing research at the Scheepsvaart Museum (Maritime Museum) in Amsterdam reported the following information in an email a few months ago: The ship "Kath" owned by Hans Jelisz of the West Indies Company sailed for New Amsterdam June 6, 1647 and noted that it was "stranded on Sandy Hook." The following obituary appeared in the April 25, 2001, edition of the Sullivan Independent News of Missouri: Loyd Stout Loyd Richard Stout of St. Louis, Mo., passed away April 3, 2001, at his home at the age of 75 years. He was a retired interior decorator, paper hanger and painter. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He served as the pastor of the Sullivan Church of the Nazarene from 1987 to 1993. His ministry there was interrupted by illness, but he returned for another year in 1995. He loved people, especially children, and the church experienced many milestones during those years. On March 2, 1968, he married Darlene Alice Badgley in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He is survived by her. Other survivors include: eight sons, Daniel Stout of Collinsville, Ill.; Mike Stout of Fenton, Mo.; Dennis Stout of Barnhart; Richard Stout of Kansas City, Mo.; Kevin and Lane Stout of St. Louis, Mo.; Tim Stout of Ava, Ill. and Jeremy Stout of Columbia, Ill., two daughters, Karen Cooper of Malden and Lisa Mya Kelly of St. Louis. There are 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five sisters, Alma Blunt of Fairdealing, Zelma Atwell and Vera Jones of Poplar Bluff, Dorothy Gatewood of St. Joseph, and Mildred Robertson of Arnold. The funeral service was at 1 p.m., April 6, at the Cottrell Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Harold Lumley officiating. Interment was in the Kinsey Cemetery at Poplar Bluff. There will be a memorial service for Loyd Stout at the Webster Groves Church of the Nazarene at 145 E. Old Watson Road, Webster Groves, Mo., at 6 p.m., on Thursday, April 26.

The following obituary appeared in the May 17, 2001, edition of the Scranton (Pennsylvania) Times: Mamie B. Stout, 96, a guest at Wesley Village, Pittston, formerly of 640 River St., Moosic, died Tuesday morning at the village. She was the widow of Palmer Stout, who died on Sept. 25, 1999. Born in Taylor on Nov. 3, 1904, daughter of the late John and Louise Schield Bichler, she settled at the village in 1999 after previously residing in Moosic. She was educated in Taylor schools and was a member of the Moosic Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends once a month. Surviving are two sons, Robert, Anchorage, Alaska, and George, Rockledge, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, George; and a sister, Freda Peifer. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with services by the Rev. Wesley Kemp, chaplain of Wesley Village. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Saturday, 10 a.m. until time of the service.
The following appeared in the May 22, 2001, edition of The Daily Oklahoman: Mildred Lillie (STOUT) HOWARD, born August 21, 1917 in McMillan, OK passed away Monday, May 21, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl R. HOWARD; parents, Millard and Lillie STOUT; uncle and aunt, Andrew & Lalla (HOWELL) DOOL, who raised her as their own child; her twin brother, Millard (Bud) STOUT. After the passing of their mother, Mildred grew up in Capitol Hill and worked with her uncle and aunt in the family business. At that business, in early 1940, she met Earl R. HOWARD. They married January 17, 1942 and later had 4 children, Kay CLARK, Del City, Larry HOWARD, Midwest City, Carole AKERS, Del City, Sandy HOWARD. Mildred and Earl owned Eddie's Coffee and Donut Shop on S. Robinson for 15 years. Mildred was a member of Sunny Lane United Methodist Church. As a member of Del City Senior Citizens Dance Group, she loved to country dance and dress up. Her laughter & smile will be missed by family and friends. Services are graveside 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
