As you may remember, I have been up against a blank wall in trying to find out anything about the Stones. I did recently find out that Rufus was in the Confederate Army and the VA Confederate list (?) offered a place for queries and this is an answer I received. It has helped in that it has given me Margaret's maiden name and the marriage date and place for Margaret and Hiram. It also shows a child, Mary E., whom I did not have. She must have been born in March 1850 since she is shown as 3 months old and the 1850 census date was June 1. I hope this will help someone else. Here is some Stone information. Hiram Stone and Margaret Pane were married 28 May 1836 in Giles Co, VA. >From the 1850 Giles Co, VA Federal Census: Hiram Stone 35 m Farmer NC Peggy 39 f VA Elisha W 12 m VA Attended school Eliza 11 f VA Rufus F 2 m VA Mary E 3/12 f VA Rufus Stone appears on a roster of G B Chapman's Co, Light Arty. Chapman's Company was organized 25 Apr 1862 in Monroe County, VA (now WV). The Company participated in the following battles/skirmishes/campaigns: 10 May 1862 Giles Court House Sep 1862 Kanawha Campaign 10 Sep 1862 Fayetteville 13 Sep 1862 Charleston 29 Jun--4 Jul 1863 Expedition to Beverly 26-27 Aug 1863 White Sulphur Springs 6 Nov 1863 Droop Mountain Nov 1863 Knoxville Campaign 15 May 1864 New Market Jun 1864 Lynchburg Campaign 9 Jul 1864 Monocacy 19 Sep 1864 Winchester 22 Sep 1864 Fisher's Hill 19 Oct 1864 Cedar Creek 2 Mar 1865 Waynesborough And, of course, if anyone has further information, I will be so grateful!
