Stone in my lineage, born in Surry County, North Carolina, 12 Oct 1838; d. 25 Jul 1863. My source says he was a Civil War casualty, perhaps at Gettysburg, where his brother, Enoch, died. My source (Stones of Surry, 2d ed, 1955) does not name a spouse. This John A. was one of twelve children of Enoch and Elizabeth (Gordon) Stone. The "A" could stand for "Anthony," the maiden name of John's paternal grandmother. Richard Bingham
