    3. This is a repost from a few months ago! hope others are looking! Seeking others researching Stones in and around Stokenham, Devon and St. Cleer, Cornwall. My ggfather-William Henry Stone b. @1867 Crowsnest, St Cleer Cornwall son of William H. Stone b. 1833 Frittiscombe, Stokenham, Devon and Ann Couch Reed b. 1834 Cornwall - d. 1901; bro of Mary Jane Strong. William Sr. was the youngest of a very large family-father Samuel - and had a much older sister who had an illegitimate son named John Stone (fr. John Pridgen) who came to St. Cleer to be in mining with his uncle. John Stone m. Sarah Ann Rogers (dtr of Thomas and Dinah___) at St. Cleer in 1857 - their children included in 1881 w/respective ages: Andrew (18), John (17), Polly (16), Thomas H. (14), Ellen (13), Willie (11), Arthur (9), George (7), Amelia (4). I have done extensive work at the Devon County Record Office and it is clear that this Stone family goes back to the earliest known records for the parish of Stokenham with branches (some fuzzy, some clear) to neighboring areas. I haven't been actively working on this branch for a while, but would like to get back into it and see if others are pursuing similar areas. Note: William Henry Stone (Jr.) was a carpenter among other job pursuits. He left Cornwall in 1883, traveling in steerage to Detroit. he then went to Seattle, WA where he married Alice Baker December 2, 1889. (She had come from the Wales/ Hereford border with her widowed mother and 3 sibs @1886). They all moved to the Los Angeles area shortly thereafter where William and Alice had 2 children; Bessie Ann (Fuller)(1892-1975 LA) and Clyde Henry Stone (1896-1956 LA)-my grandfather. They separated @1899 and were officially divorced in LA county in 1905. By that time William had returned to England (destination unknown) where he apparently remarried and had at least one additional daughter - who came to the US some years later to visit. the name of the dtr, 2nd wife and date and place of residence and death for these people and William is unknown and a great mystery due to the commonness of the name William H. (Henry) Stone, the utter lack of ancillary clues and the expense of getting records from St. Catherine's House. Thanks to all in advance. Sharon Yokaitis
