    1. [STONE] STONE/JESSEE SW Virginia to Missouri
    2. Pat Jessee
    3. Thank you for stepping in and keeping the list going. My Stones have been a bit challenging to track, moving around in different counties but staying in southwest Virginia for the most part. My husband and I share a common ancestor, John Jessee in Russell Co. VA. John’s son, James, is my husband’s ancestor and John’s daughter, Frances, who married William Stone is my ancestor. William and Frances Jessee Stone were both born about 1789 and moved from southwest Virginia to Sullivan Co. Missouri somewhere around 1830-1840. Some of their family accompanied them, while my direct ancestors remained in VA. William and Frances are buried in Sullivan Co. William’s father may have been Jeremiah Stone, that is as far back as I go and have not determined names of any siblings William may have had. William and Frances Stone’s son, John Jessee Stone (born abt. 1810) married Rebecca Sergeant (born abt. 1810). John and Rebecca’s son, William Henry Stone (born abt. 1829) married Mary Jane Stanley. William and Mary’s son, Benjamin Franklin Stone (born abt. 1875-1877) married Mary Caroline Green (born 1883). Benjamin and Mary’s son, Jake Benjamin Stone, Sr. married Ethel Gertrude Collier, they are my grandparents. 3. Ron, did your source mention what county Wiley's parents Harmon and Mary Colvin Stone lived in SC? If so, the 1810 census of that county should show head of household and a 7 year old son. Also, and old Southern custom of continuing names down thru generations don't apply. I did notice there is a Colvin Family Page, and some of them were Colvins. 1. [STONE] Andrew C. Stone, Hanover VA and Kingwood, WV
    2. Hi! Donna Pratt (dpratt5326@aol.com) and I, along with Shirley Stone of Kingwood, WV, are working on the ancestors of Andrew C. Stone, born in Hanover, VA, 1792, the son of William P. Stone. He married Martha Christian and died before 1870 in Kingwood. He was the executor of his father William P. Stone's estate. We are trying to get a copy of the will which is in Book 1 of Hanover Co; #590 for 1868 -- just after the burning of records. A probable brother of William P. Stone was Stephen Stone Jr. who had Claibourne V. Stone, also living in Kingwood, according to his marriage certificate for a second wife.. A third inhabitant of Kingwood was John R. Stone; it is not clear whether he was brother of Andrew or Claibourne or ? The census material from the late 1700's indicates that the probable father of William P. and Stephen Stone Jr. was Stephen Stone Sr. His possible father was John Stone who is listed in the Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish of Hanover Co., VA from 1738 to 1745, receiving 400 item payments from them per year. In 1745, Lewis Watkins received 150 units "for burying John Stone." Some questions: What are the units of value used by the St. Paul's Parish? Why was John Stone one of the few men to get a payment? We note that several of you list a Andrew Larkin Stone born in Texas. What is the connection with Andrew C. Stone, who had a son named Larkin? Any and all help gratefully received by all of us. 3. Hi Cora, I noticed you have MATHESON as a surname. Is it connected to any MATHESON from Prince Edward Island Canada? I ask as my great-grandfather, William STONE of Halifax Co. Nova Scotia married a Mary Jane MATHE(W)SON of PEI. She was born c1867. Daughter of Kenneth MATHE(W)SON and Rebecca Elizabeth JENKINS. Surname spelling has been debated for years. Mary Jane had two brothers, John and George (both ended up in British Columbia Canada) ... each spelled their suname differently. Cheers, Trena Heater .. Congratulations Wayne. My STONE interests are: (& looking for descendants) Current descendants know my 2x great-grandfather as, Edward Bauld STONE born 1823, England (whereabouts not known, but was thought to have been Yaxley, Huntingdonshire) Under the name Edward BALLS, in 1849 he married Mary Elizabeth PHILLIPS, born 1824 Yaxley Huntingdonshire, daughter of Thomas PHILLIPS and ?. Edward STONE is named as father of Edward BALLS, on marriage certificate ... there is NO mistake about this, it is clearly written. First two sons, Edward (b1851) and Robert (b1853) in Yaxley area and daughter Alice (b1855 - place unknown). Birth records for both Edward and Robert show BALLS as surname but .. 1851 census shows family using the STONE surname, lodgers in Thomas PHILLIPS' home, in Yaxley. Edward and Mary with three children in tow, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia c1855/56. They farmed on the Cobequid Rd., Lower Sackville, Halifax County, where they eventually raised their 6 sons and one daughter. Another daughter, Rebecca died in infancy. Both Edward and Mary are buried in All Saints Cemetery, Bedford NS, 1908 & 1910 respectively. Known to all the family as Edward Bauld STONE. Daughter Alice married (?) James KERR birth date & place unknown. They settled in Spokane, Sponkane Co., Washington (state), where they died .. Alice 17th January 1942 and James 29th July 1922. Mary Elizabeth Phillips STONE was known to have travelled to the US many times, accompanied by Alice/other female companion. Majority of descendants still in Nova Scotia, though some of us are elsewhere in Canada. Anyone with any knowledge is asked to make contact. With sincere regards, Trena Heater ... great-great granddaughter via father>mother>father>EBS & MEP

I continue to search for my Stone family from the area surrounding Cumberland county Maine (I am not going to limit myself to 'just' Cumberland county ....) Isaac STONE was born about 1822 in Brunswick, Maine and came to Wisconsin around the late 1840's. He married in Wisconsin and had three children; Alvin, Langley and Nancy Ann If anyone happens to be 'missing' someone fitting Isaac's *profile* or have Stone family members with the names of Isaac's children ... I'd love to hear from you! Cindy Bergeron Scherwinski
