Cora, My great grandfather, John W. Stone, was from Virginia now West Virginia, Preston County and died their about 1930. He lived in PA for a time as well as Marion County, Ohio. There may be no connection. There are lots of John Stones. Please give me some dates and any other information and I will so some searching as I continue my search for my relatives. We all try to help each other but need dates, locations, cities or counties where he may have lived, and even little pieces of information that may not seem that important. Lets hope we can find something. Hope to hear more or you posting on rootsweb or email me. Larry E. There was a John Stone from Virginia who was killed by the Indians just prior to the start of King Philip's war here in New England (it was one of the precipitating events). I wonder if there is a connection. You didn't give any dates for your John Stone. Given the large number of John Stones, dates are always immensely helpful (as are locations) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

Thanks for your reply. However, it doesn't appear that these William Riley Stones are the same person. My William Riley Stone was in the civil war and wounded at Missionary Ridge and was married to 2 sisters-Dunkins. It is possible that these two families are related but if so, it would more likely be from James O. Stone and his siblings as I do not recognize any names in this family. Thanks again for your information. You never know when there might be a connection and it seems like it is harder to find a Stone than to throw one. While researching my STONE Family, I came across this entry in the New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, Volume II on page 804: Simon STONE, the immigrant ancestor of this branch of the STONE family in America, was born in Great Bromley, county Essex, England, where he was baptized February 9, 1585-1586.... On April 15, 1636...embarked from London in the ship "Increase".... Mr. STONE settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. Brother Gregory.... Children of first wife (Joan CLARK) were Francis (1618-19), Mary (1621), Ann (1624), Simon (1631), Mary (1632), John (1635), Elizabeth (1639). Simon STONE died in Watertown September 22, 1665. This is just a extraction of a much longer article, but it gives enough particulars to assist in research. Hope it helps someone -- I could not find a connection with my STONEs of Guilford, Connecticut (1769) and Jericho, Vermont (1792). While researching my STONE Family, I came across this entry in the New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial, Volume II on page 797: Daniel STONE, a descendant of Gregory STONE, the American immigrant, was born about 1750 and settled in Charlton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He married Abigail JONES of Worcester. Children: Amasa (1779), Mary (1780), Abigail (1783), Daniel (1785), Jonathan (1790) all born in Charlton, Massachusetts. His estate was divided by the children in 1801. Hope it helps someone -- I could not find a connection with my STONEs of Guilford, Connecticut (1769) and Jericho, Vermont (1792). Well, I believe my Stone line is originally from CT or NJ, but have some new information since I last posted. On May 5, 1893 NYC, my gf was born Herbert Manville (his mother's name was Sadie Manville and was was listed UW, unwed?) and early on, changed his name to Roy Stone. Although there is no name of a father on the birth certificate, the father's occupation is "machinist" his age "26", birthplace as Brooklyn and residence as N.Y. On my gf's SS application, his father is listed as George Stone. Would anyone know of this George Stone born in Brooklyn in about 1867? There are 5 possible in the 1880 census but I can't seem to narrow it down. I am still hoping to find that one record or notation in a written history that will help me connect my gg-grandfather, Isaac Stone of Wisconsin with his family in Brunswick, Maine. Isaac came to Wisconsin during the 1840's and by 1850 is listed with his oldest son, Alvin (also born during that same year). Two other children were to follow; a second son, Langley and daughter Nancy Ann. I'm hoping that the names of his children will help me connect with his family (Isaac's wife was from the Lac du Flambeau band of the Chippewa. Any help will certainly be appreciated Cindy
I cannot answer your question particularly, but wanted to let you know there is a book, "The History of Pittsylvania County, VA" that gives quite a bit of information on the Stone family. I wrote a note to the list about a year ago when I found this book looking for my husband's Sharp kin (Granderson M. Sharp, b. 1810, Danville, Pittsylvania Co., VA). Priscilla
