    2. My family's oral history is that we are direct desc of Thomas Stone [1743-10/05/1787] Yet, as I researched, there are serious questions as to whether there are any Stone surnames as direct since it would only go down from the male line. >From the research done by Stone, Marshall, Wade, and Dent families - appears to be from another Thomas Stone, b. 1745. If Someone can show me where I have erred, it would certainly make others in my family happy - again, oral history was desc of Signor of Declaration, not his 3rd cuz. Most sources show children as Frederick, Margaret, and Mildred. Frederick is purported to have died about 1793, unmarried, and childless. Yet, I have seen several sources, to include U.S. Parks Service, say he and Margaret Brown had an estimated 10 children. I have been unable to determine if there are any other children than Frederick, Margaret, and Mildred. The best effort so far shows that my family descends from his 3rd cousin, Thomas Stone [1745-bet 1812-1813, m. Sally unknown, son of John Stone [abt 1709-1764] and Mary Marshall [abt 1713-1774]. Both Thomas Stone's are desc from William Stone and Verlinda Graves. My line is: Thomas Stone [1745-bet 1812-1813] m. Sally unknown [1742-aft 7/7/1813] - 3rd gr-grandson of William Stone & Verlinda Graves Kinzea Stone, Sr. [10/29/1774-1/19/1846] m. Sarah Watts [9/13/1780-2/22/1834] John Stone [1831- ] m. Ann Washington Redmond [1832- ] Charles W. Stone [7/22/1848-10/12/1919] m. Eleanora Bywaters [2/27/1859-2/24/1918] - my gr-grandparents. Again, if erred, please advise. 3. Friday, June 28, 2002 For those of you who think you may be related to Thomas Stone, signer of the Declaration of Independence here is some information, I ran across. Thomas Stone - 1743-1787 Representing Maryland at the Continental Congress Born: 1743 in: Charles County Md. Education: Parish School, Law Studies (Lawyer) Work: Admitted to the Maryland Bar, 1764: Elected to the Continental Congress, 1775-78, 1783 Elected to Constitutional Convention (declined). 1785 Died: October 5, 1787 Thomas Stone was born at Poynton Manor in Charles County Maryland in 1743; He was educated by a Scottish schoolmaster and later studied law at the office of Thomas Johnson. He was admitted to the Bar in 1764 and set up practice in Frederick Maryland. He was a prosperous landowner and moderately successful lawyer. Stone was elected to Congress in 1775. He did not speak much in congress, little is known of his service there, except that he was a member of the committee that framed the Articles of Confederation. He voted for Independence in 1776, and his name is affixed to the Declaration. He was elected to Congress again in 1783 and served as chairman, but retired at the end of his tem. He was elected to attend the Constitutional Convention in 1785, but declined the office because of his wife's failing health. She died 1787, and Stone never got over the grief. He decided to travel to England, but died in Alexandria while waiting for the ship. He was forty-four years old. Little else is known about Thomas Stone, as no letter or papers accounting his life have ever been found. 3. Thanks for all the response (more than I got when I asked with all the details previously!) Been sick so I'm late getting back to you but here are the details regarding my John Stone from Bedford, PA born about 1760 and married about 1800. Wife unknown. The family lived in Friends Cove, near Rainsburg in Bedford county. According to his grandson he served for 7 years in the colonial army. We have photo copies of some company payroll from January 1776 to 1781. They think he joined around 16 years age. He served in Patton's Regiment under Capt Bicker's company. He was a farmer and cooper. Solomon, his grandson stated that the Stone family "was one of the old and honored families of the Keystone State." Previous work (1960) by other family members have found a 1760 marriage of John Stone and Mary Walker. Also a 1747 marriage of Robert Stone and Ann Odgen but no consensus was made on if either of these were his parents. Sure hope someone out there has some pieces of the puzzle for John Stone. 1. [STONE] STONE family NY 1700s to Wisconsin and IL in 1800s
    2. Ebenezer STONE was born, possibly, in CT, in the mid 1700s. He settled in Victor, NY in 1790s and married Clarissa ODELL. His son Hiram Hoyt STONE was born in 1800 and another son Horatio Odell STONE was born in 1811. Ebenezer joined his sons in Michigan and then Chicago in 1840s. He passed away in Chicago in 1843. His son Hiram had 5 children - Milton, Abner, Hiram W., Jennie and Emily. All but Emily were born in Monroe County, NY. Emily was born in Michigan in 1846. In late 1840s this family moved to Chicago and about 10 years later to Wisconsin first to Port Washington and then to Waukesha where the family owned a small store. His son Horatio bought some 'swamp land' on the shores of Lake Michigan and made his fortune selling land that was part of the city of Chicago. He was also owner of a mercantile business in Chicago. Ebenezer, Horatio and his family are buried at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago - section M. Would sure like to connect with more descendants of this family - have already met one 'cousin' on line. We are trying to find out more about Ebenezer and Clarissa. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Joan

    2. Hi Pam .........I ,too, trace back to Daniel Boone , the famous one , through his brother, Samuel. The Boones were a VERY PROLIFIC group and took seriously the Bible advice to "go forth and multipy". Most of the early Boone Families had a least 11 kids if not more. They spread out from PA to the south, through KY, TN until I think everyone can trace some connection no matter how small to the Boone family. The family has been well documented and you can find several sites online ......MANY books etc. Robyn Stone my greatgrandmother was Lotta Alberta Boone
