I have recently subscribed to Stone Digest. I would like to reply to a notice in V98#49 but I just don't understand how. Can someone help me? I also am not sure how to post my notice. This is new to me, obviously Jan Gilliam Reynolds @ [email protected]
I have a Benjamin Stone, born in Louden Co. VA, 29 Feb 1806. He wa a Surgeon in the Mexican War, in1846. Married Emily Beckwith, in Perry Co OH, 5 Oct. 1841. He died 22 Sept. 1849 in Somerset, Perry Co. OH. Barbara Marsh Pollock Pines, CA
Austin Stone 1748-abt 1800, settled along Lynches River in SC. We have most of family info from there on down to current if anyone thinks he is related. Almost all of tree still in SC, mostly Florence and Williamsburg counties. Still a few loose ends; if you think you might be one, e-mail me. Thanks.
Hi All First timer here. I am working on finding parents, siblings of my ancestor Benjamin Stone, who died in 1795, Madison County, Kentucky, having come there from Guilford Co., North Carolina. His wife at the time of his death was Sarah, possibly Lewis. Children of Benjamin were: Burgess Stone, Samuel Stone, Daniel Stone, John Stone, Dudley L. Stone and daughters Rebeccah (Oden), Jane, Fanny Lewis, and others. The first record I have of a Benjamin Stone was one born in Richmond Co., VA., in 1747, son of Joshua Stone and Wilmoth Bryant Stone. I have no proof that he was MY Benjamin. There was also another Benjamin Stone in Orange Co., NC who was a Rev. War soldier, at least I think it was another B.S. I assume that my Benjamin was born ca. 1750, and the first record that I have of him is when he was fined for failure to serve jury duty, in 1785, Guilford Co., NC. Any help out there??
Sorry all, Try this add. instead the other had a miss type.: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9019/index.html Also family descendent files requires: Microsoft word or word pad to open. We are trying to convert from rft. files to text files. So everyone can view them. Should have that problem fixed by this week end. But everything else on the page is able to be accessed by all. Hope this helps Sherrie & Alvin Smith [email protected]
Please come see our new home page. We have 12 descendent files on there now with over 30 surnames in it. A lot of links to help in family research, pictures, and much much more that we add to daily! Our home page is at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9019/Index.html warmest regards Sherrie & Alvin Smith [email protected]
Hello, Jack, I was stunned to see your request on the STONE-L Roots list for information on Nelson Edwin Stone, as I think your Stones and mine must almost surely be related somehow. Though I am aware of no ties between my Stones and OH>IA>ND>ID, my Stones from the same generation have the same given names. My father's name was Davis Philip Stone (b. 1925, Bronx, NYC), named after his father's brother, Davis. My grandfather's name was Philip Nelson Stone (b. 1886 Nyack, NY). His father's name was Edwin Bosworth Stone (b. 1858 Peru, MA). And HIS father's name was Ward N. Stone (b. 1831 Savoy, MA), and I am beginning to suspect the N might have stood for Nelson. Ward was the son of Orren Stone and Joanna Turner, and you can read about them on page 327 of J. Gardner Bartlett's 811+page book, _Simon Stone Genealogy: Ancestry and Descendants of Deacon Simon Stone of Watertown, Mass. 1320-1926_, Stone Family Association, Boston, 1926 (available at genealogical libraries and on microfilm from the Library of Congress). This book details all of the preceding generations to back to the original Deacon Simon Stone who came from Essex Co., England to Massachusetts in 1635 (and beyond, back into English generations in Essex). The immigrants Simon and his brother, Gregory, were the progenitors of most of the Stone families of Massachusetts. My line goes from the original Simon(1) through Simon(7) to Orren. There is also an N.J. (Nelson?) Stone buried next to Joanna Turner in the Turner Cemetery in Savoy, MA (Berkshire Co.). Only indication is that he died during the Civil War, and served in Co. K, 34th Mass. Inf. There is also a Henry H. Stone, 1824-1882 buried there, and I am trying to determine what relationship these men had to the Turners; I susepct they were Joanna's sons. I am still trying to research all of this family right now. I suspect that if we were to locate all the siblings and offspring of these three or four past generations we would see a connection between your Stones and mine, though I can't yet connect them. What do you think? Anyway, thought you might like a new lead from way out in left field <g>. By the way, I admired and enjoyed your web page, and bookmarked several of your genealogy and map links. Thanks! Michelle Stone, from NY & CA, now in VA [email protected] Searching for Demare / Ehmann / Gilcher / Kreischer / Lipke / Roberts (MA, NY) / Stone (NY, MA) / Wolfrath

The new products are part of a plan to simplify genealogical research, making it faster and easier to access vital information and resources. This "opening of the library doors" will begin in April 1998 with the release of a new software program, the Family History SourceGuide, and two new resource files on CD: the 1851 British Census Records (three counties), and the Australian Vital Records Index (1788-1905). Family History SourceGuide is the first automated Windows® product of its kind for the Church to compile more than 150 research guides available at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. "SourceGuide makes starting the research process faster, easier, and more enjoyable," explains Steve Fox, product manager of SourceGuide. It's like having your very own reference librarian in the convenience of your home." Users type in a place where their ancestor lived, and what they would like to learn (i.e., sources to check to find a birthdate/place, marriage, adoption, occupation, immigration, military and living relative information). While the product will not show information about individuals, it will list the types of records and sources needed to find the requested information. The CD, produced by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is designed for those who know basic information about their ancestors, but now need to search original sources to complete their personal records. "This is the first time we've automated knowledge about how to do genealogy," Fox said. "In the past we've been limited in our ability to share our reference expertise with people, but now they can have an automated tool in their homes to guide them in their research." This product suits both the amateur and researcher. The novice will find information on where to start, what to do, and how to access a variety of different records. A glossary of terms defines unfamiliar research and genealogical terms. The experts, who generally specialize in a particular locality, will find guides for places outside of their expertise. Many of the guides available in SourceGuide were first published nearly a decade ago to facilitate use of the Family History Library Catalog which indexes the vast records made available through the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. This new CD now combines these documents into one automated product for general use. Many records described in SourceGuide can be accessed through Family History Centers located around the globe. These mini-libraries of genealogical information are staffed by volunteers who can assist patrons with research and provide access to resources from the Family History Library. Addresses of more than 1,000 major Family History Centers, helpful libraries, and archives are included. Since 1894, the Church has officially gathered and organized genealogical information. More recently, data has been available in the Family History Library, the world's largest reservoir of genealogical information. It offers access to more than 2 million microfilms; 700,000 microfiche; and 274,000 books. SourceGuide gives a comprehensive perspective of these worldwide sources. ============================================== Two New Items Now Available in the Ancestry Online Store! Of all the families that I am working on, I thought the STONEs would be the easiest since my husband's great-grandfathers were brothers. NOT! They were Rev. John STONE, b 3-22-1827 in Lauderdale, Alabama, and Dr. Thomas Calvin STONE, b 10-4-1834 in Alabama. They were the sons of William STONE, b 1796 in Perquimans County, North Carolina, the son of Moses STONE, the son of David STONE of Mass. I already know all this from family history, but have been unable to substantiate anything on William, Moses or David. Any help out there? TIA Julia Don FANCHER STONE
This Richard Stone is one of the Stones I have looked into a little bit. So far, I have no tie to him. I have a pedigree chart for him if you're interested. I only have one daughter listed for Him and his wife, Mary Yancy. Her name is Phoebe Stone b. abt 1744, Lunenburg County, VA. She d.abt 1783 in the same county. I show she married Minor Wilkes Sr. I first found this info on a web site: http://cannibal.tower.wayne.edu/~chad/gene/D0003/206.html I don't know if this web page is still around or not. Do you have any info on Richard and Mary's children? If you'd like I will send you a GED or text file of this info.
