I have names and dates for Nancy and Robert's children if anyone finds a connection and is interested... Thanks! Melinda Easley Yoas

Hello, fellow researchers! Teri & I have been innundated with request this week for a sample letter that people can send regarding the 1911 Canadian Census. Having just sent the following one ourselves, please feel free to use a copy - with your info, of course! <g> After going round & round disclaiming their responsibility, at least now we know the issue is becoming known! Yours for protecting our right to know, Doug & Teri Champigny, [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Doug Champigny [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, June 11, 1998 11:35 AM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: ************************************************************************* Your e-mail message has been received by the Prime Minister*s Office. Please be assured that Mr. *Chrétien appreciates the time and care that you have taken in writing to him. While he would like to respond to each and every message personally, the volume of mail he receives every day makes that impossible. The Prime Minister works closely with his colleagues in Cabinet to carry out the functions of government. Every minister is assigned an area of responsibility and answers, on behalf of the Government of Canada, on matters in his/her jurisdiction. The Honourable John Manley, Minister of Industry, is responsible for the matter you raised and your message has been forwarded to him directly. You may rest assured that the Minister*s office will give your views careful consideration. ************************************************************************* Mr. Manley: As advised by the PMO (above), we write to you today with regard to the status of the 1911 Census, and those that followed it. As Minister of Industry, we implore you to work with the world-wide genealogy community to strike a harmonious balance between privacy discretion and the People's right to know and cherish their heritage. At issue here is not whether the Statistics Act allows or disallows the release of the information - the issue is whether this Act, originally initiated in 1906, is a proper governing treatise in the new information age, where almost any information is available world-wide through the electronic community. Surely the privacy concerns behind the passage of this act are sufficiently protected by the previous 92-year rule. We thereby submit a formal request, sir, that you work with our Heritage Minister, the Honourable Sheila Copps, to protect and preserve our rights by ammending the current legislation, enabling the continuance of the 92-year rule. Please, Minister, allow future generations to continue our pride in the pioneers, veterans and every other Canadian who helped to make Canada the shining example it is today! In this regard, would you please send us a note, detailing your feelings on this terribly important issue, and letting us know both what steps you and Minister Copps are taking, and what steps you would have us take to aid you in this matter. Samuel Stone of Hertford, England has a grandson (if I read this correctly) by the name of Ezekiel Stone born 5 Feb 1750 Bethlehem, Conn. and he married a Mary Seely 19 May 1774. Ezekiel died 22 aug 1821. Could this be of any help? Hillra Stone Qualls

To Georgia who wrote yesterday: >>I have an Ezekiel Stone, Esq. floating around in my family tree...I found him in West Stockbridge, MA and possibly married to Mary Orcutt....<< I'm looking at my index of STONE appearances in the journal, The Berkshire Genealogist, and see several articles listing mention of Ezekiel Stone. If you haven't already checked these, write to The Berkshire Family History Assn., P.O. Box 1437, Pittsfield, MA 01202, enclosing a few dollars for postage/copying/handling, and ask for copies of the following pages (and/or entire articles including the pages): Vol. 6, No. 2, pg. 27 Vol. 15, No. 3, pages 76, 78, 80, 81, 84 Vol. 15, No. 4, pages 113, 118 Good luck! Does anybody have a Henry Stone born in OH and died abt. 184? I have 3 Stone brothers who all fought in the Civil War, but only one came back alive. John, Joseph and Wm. Wesley Stone. In the 1850 Census of OH they were all farmed out so I assume their father died during that time in Meigs Co., OH. They were all together until then. Any clues out there? John was 19 in 1862, Joseph was 21, and Wesley was 23. Thanks, Karen in OH
I have an Ezekiel Stone, Esquire floating around in my family tree with no branch to call his own. I found him in West Stockbridge, MA and possibly married to Mary Orcutt. Ezekiel was the father of Mary Ann Stone who married Elijah Andrews of Canaan, CT. She was born June 10, 1780. I have seen vague and uncited references to a descent from one Reverend Samuel Stone, but know nothing I can call fact. I would really like to solve this riddle. If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful. Georgia
Hello, I am desperately seeking information on John Stone. He married Sarah Margaret Hallam on March 26, 1829 in Clinton Co., OH. Both were originally from Washington Co., PA because they had a court suit that moved them back there for a year or two around 1833. John Stone supposedly died before 1840 in Ohio because the 1840 census lists Margaret as head of household. But their daughter, Margaret Emmeline Stone, was born about 1843. I descend from her. As far as I can find or can't find, John Stone did not own any land in Ohio. Margaret bought a small farm from her brother, Absalom Hallam, after 1840. John Stone, according to family tradition, was born in Ireland. Help, Alyson Crippen
Hello, Fellow Researchers! Again today, the genealogy lists worldwide are buzzing with Canada's decision not to ever release the national Census from 1911, or any further ones. Can you imagine what your database and website would look like once you removed any info you got from a census? While this is just one country, is it the start of a trend? Will liability concerns make this a precedent? And will our descendants be denied the joy of 'Aha! I found it!', that cry we all love so dearly? <g> Since we all know only too well how families migrate from country to country over the years, who's to say how many genealogy buffs this will one day deter? Many of the letters are pointing out the nice, polite form letters we all got, rejecting our bid for sanity on this issue (after all, just how do you violate the privacy of someone who has been dead for 50 years?), and asking for suggestions on the next step to take. We would like to offer one simple suggestion: If we're dissatisfied with the service at a local store, we speak to the owner. If a local franchise causes us grief or turns a deaf ear, we write the head office. In this vein, we humbly offer http://pm.gc.ca/mail_room/contact_pm/index.html-ssi, the direct response page on the P.M.'s web site.(NOTES: that's 'mail_room' and 'contact_pm'; it uses the underscore, not a hyphen. Also - no www) We firmly believe this is the logical next step in our battle to protect our hobby, our rights, and our HERITAGE!!! If those sending us the replies truly don't have the power to change things, as they so nicely point out, then we should be talking to one who can. And no one has more power over this decision than Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien! Please, take but a few minutes today to help preserve our kind, and to help wage a battle against one more small step in the loss of our freedoms. Thank you. Doug & Teri Champigny, Toronto, Ontario.
