    3. Hi Sunny, I may have a copy of the Nowlin-Stone book that you asked about. Mine is only xeroxed. I will have to do some digging. The Nowlin/Nowlan/Nowland lived in White county, Tn at one time. I have a cousin in OR that has sent xerox photos of some of my cousins from OR that are Nowlin & Stones. Are you connected to the Nowlin or to the Stones? I believe I copied what I have at the Nashville, Tn archives. Hillra Stone Qualls [email protected]

Stone in my lineage, born in Surry County, North Carolina, 12 Oct 1838; d. 25 Jul 1863. My source says he was a Civil War casualty, perhaps at Gettysburg, where his brother, Enoch, died. My source (Stones of Surry, 2d ed, 1955) does not name a spouse. This John A. was one of twelve children of Enoch and Elizabeth (Gordon) Stone. The "A" could stand for "Anthony," the maiden name of John's paternal grandmother. Richard Bingham

    3. Hi, I have a death certificate (June 3, 1901) of Emily LAFLAM TEFFT in Easthapton, MA that lists a Lydia STONE born in Canada and Peter LAFLAM born in Canada as parents. Emily was born about 1848 in Keesville, NY. She was maried to a Charles TEFFT and she was buried in Victory Mills, NY. 1870 census for Ausable, NY has Peter LAFLAM and Mary Ann Barrett next to Charles and Lydia. 1860 census for Ausable also has Peter and Mary Ann together. What happened to Lydia? No other information has been found on Lydia STONE. Does someone know more? Gary Walker South Windsor, CT

    2. Jennie, Your query caught my eye because you mentioned Stone in connection to Cohern. My grandmother was a Stone and they lived neighbors to the Cohern\Cothern/Cochran/Cohorn family in Independence Co Ar. My gg-grandmother was a Cochran and she married a Gilliam who in turn had a son who married an Ashby and there son married Ida Pearlee Stone. Now, my grandfather Eather Ivern Gilliam told me his family was called sounds like Caw-Horn when he was young but later called themselves Cochran. John G. Cochran was the father of my gg-grandmother Elizabeth Cochran. He had brothrs named James and William that I know of. They came to Indepdendenc Co in the 1830s. Possiably from Franklin Co Tn. John G. may have been married to a Wammack/Womack. If any of this sounds famaliar please contact me. Jan Gilliam Reynolds

    2. Searching for any information on John A. Stone who was born in North Carolina in 1818 and married Mary Nolan, also born NC, about 1838, in either North Carolina or Tennessee. I recently learned Mary's maiden name (Nolan) from her gravestone in Two Bayou Cemetery in Ouachita Co., AR. John and Mary both died in 1863. I have not yet located where in North Carolina they were born, and I haven't been able to find a marriage record for them in either NC or TN, where their first child, Sarah Elizabeth Stone, was born in 1839. Other children were born in Mississippi and in Arkansas, where they finally settled. If anyone has easy access to any Stone marriage records from NC or TN, I would certainly appreciate it if these could be checked. Thanks for any help or suggestions on where I could search for this marriage record. 3. Hi! I'm new to the list and I'm researching the Stones from Kentucky, particularly Webster and Henderson Counties. I have three different sets of Stones in my family. My Grandmother was a Stone--her parents were Levi Stone and Bertha Wilson. My husbands Grandparents were Don Cohron and Mattie Stone. His GGrandparents were George Stone and Laura Alice Stone. Therefore, a Stone married a Stone. Related or not, I don't know. I really want information regarding Levi Stone. All I know about his is that his mother was called Fannie and she worked for the Tapp Farms in Webster County, Kentucky. Can anyone help with this line? Willing to share information. 2. I have discovered that there are not only STONEs on my dads side of the family, but on my moms as well! This STONE is Walter K. Stone, married to Laura B. GABBERT, they had Walter and Susan. I can only estimate that Walter K. was born abt. 1850. No other data is available... sound familiar? Melinda Easley Yoas PS!!! Does anyone out there have any connections in their STONE pile to a GABBERT or EASLEY or YOAS? Just curious, all these can be traced back to one particular surname person from a far away country. 3. I have several Hoskins on my database (mostly from CT and MA), but I am currious if Ann (whom I don't have listed) is related to Dolly Hoskins, Lucy Hoskins, and Mary J. Hoskins of VA. Dolly and Lucy are listed as wives of John Stone b. 1754, and Mary J. is the wife of John's brother, Joshua b. 1744. I am told that it is this Joshua Stone my line connects to, just haven't found that "connection." HIs father and > mother were: William Stone and Theodosia Wade. > I am looking for William's and Ann's children.... > If anyone knows anything about the children of William and Ann, please also let me know. I assume that Ann is the daughter of Colonel Phillip Hoskins by his second wife, Anne Jones(?). Her sister (or half sister) Martha, married another Stone, Captain Thomas, son of John and Elizabeth (Warren) Stone. This John appears to have been the uncle of the William who married Theodosia Wade. As you probably know, Newman (Stones of Poynton Manor) gives William and Theodosia three sons (Thomas, William, and Richard) and five daughters. He says Richard d.s.p, and that Thomas by wife Margery has four daughters and a son, William, who d.s.p. However (unless I somehow missed it), Newman is silent as to what happened to William and Theodosia's second son, William {I do wish the Stones had been a little more creative in naming their children!). I would be particularly interested in discovering if any of the children of William and Ann (Hoskins) Stone wound up farther west, say in Prince William or Fauquier Counties. Mary Ellen Stone is the daughter of George W. and Mary Stone. (This information is not verified.) I have a recipe book written in the late 1960s by my grandmother's sister Florence Brumbaugh Pribble of Dallas, TX. I believe these recipes came from Mary Ellen STONE and her mother Mary STONE. 'Hope to find researchers of this Stone family. Tami Sneddon Heppner, OR

    2. Have a copy of the 1850 census for Menard Co., IL. In it there seem to be quite a few families of Stones, possibly brothers, that came out from VA. Most of the children seem to have been born in IL. Believe one of these is possibly my gggrandfather, Abram Stone. Some of the family heads are John Stone, 50; George Stone,47; and William Stone, 39. There is also an Elizabeth Stone, 80, who is also from VA. Hope someone can help. If not, but you want a lookup on someone who might have been on this census, will be glad to help.
