    2. couple of suggestions for your grandma you can't find. Get out the map and see where the roads go from where you know she was to points north and look there. Also look east as she her family may have been in VA and sided with the North in the Civil War so they may have come from that direction. Also look at all the neighbors and see where THEY and their families came from and look in THOSE places for her. Also look for naming pattern of her kids and her grandkids and try to figure out where the first names came from. Then check the IGI for THOSE Christian names with a STONE surname and see if any turn of in the towns you already suspect! Also if you see a first name which looks like a surname...check those family history books to see if you find her in one of those. Good luck! Bergetta

    1. [STONE-L] MAE STONE
    2. Hello Stone Researchers, I am trying to find out any information on my 2Great-grandmother MAE STONE. She is listed as the mother of my Great-grandmother Nellie Mae Turner. All attempts to find any information about Mae has been futile; no birth record, no marriage record, no death record, no census listing [for areas of residences known], etc. But this is what I do know. I have no idea where Mae STONE was born or when. I have no information on her parents or siblings. Mae died between November 1898 and May 1900. Her last child was born in Nov. 1898 and her husband, Henry Turner is listed as a widower on the 1900 Hancock Co., WV census. Mae STONE married Wilbur Henry Turner about 1888 - 1991, based on the birth dates of her children. I was always told that my GGM Nellie Mae Turner was her fourth child. But this may be an error. Nellie Mae TURNER was born August 14, 1892 in Winifrede, Kanawha Co., WV. Her birth record lists her father as W.H. Turner, occupation Miner. The mother is not listed on the birth record, however, the record indicates that the birth info was provided by the mother. Nellie was married in Brooke County WV. She later removed to Columbiana Co., OH and later to Cleveland OH where she died in 1967. Other children of Mae and Wilber Henry Turner include: --- Della Turner, born May 1895 --- Stella Turner, Della's twin --- Mamie Turner, born July 1897 --- Oliver C. Turner, born Nov. 1898 Any information or help would be appreciated. My cousin Tom Hannen is also working on this line. His email is [[email protected]]. Thanks so much, Rebekah Shelton Clarksville, TN

    1. [STONE-L] Devon/Cornwall Stones
    2. Sharon J. Yokaitis
    3. This is a repost from a few months ago! hope others are looking! Seeking others researching Stones in and around Stokenham, Devon and St. Cleer, Cornwall. My ggfather-William Henry Stone b. @1867 Crowsnest, St Cleer Cornwall son of William H. Stone b. 1833 Frittiscombe, Stokenham, Devon and Ann Couch Reed b. 1834 Cornwall - d. 1901; bro of Mary Jane Strong. William Sr. was the youngest of a very large family-father Samuel - and had a much older sister who had an illegitimate son named John Stone (fr. John Pridgen) who came to St. Cleer to be in mining with his uncle. John Stone m. Sarah Ann Rogers (dtr of Thomas and Dinah___) at St. Cleer in 1857 - their children included in 1881 w/respective ages: Andrew (18), John (17), Polly (16), Thomas H. (14), Ellen (13), Willie (11), Arthur (9), George (7), Amelia (4). I have done extensive work at the Devon County Record Office and it is clear that this Stone family goes back to the earliest known records for the parish of Stokenham with branches (some fuzzy, some clear) to neighboring areas. I haven't been actively working on this branch for a while, but would like to get back into it and see if others are pursuing similar areas. Note: William Henry Stone (Jr.) was a carpenter among other job pursuits. He left Cornwall in 1883, traveling in steerage to Detroit. he then went to Seattle, WA where he married Alice Baker December 2, 1889. (She had come from the Wales/ Hereford border with her widowed mother and 3 sibs @1886). They all moved to the Los Angeles area shortly thereafter where William and Alice had 2 children; Bessie Ann (Fuller)(1892-1975 LA) and Clyde Henry Stone (1896-1956 LA)-my grandfather. They separated @1899 and were officially divorced in LA county in 1905. By that time William had returned to England (destination unknown) where he apparently remarried and had at least one additional daughter - who came to the US some years later to visit. the name of the dtr, 2nd wife and date and place of residence and death for these people and William is unknown and a great mystery due to the commonness of the name William H. (Henry) Stone, the utter lack of ancillary clues and the expense of getting records from St. Catherine's House. Thanks to all in advance. Sharon Yokaitis

    2. Michael, I have found information which leads me to beleive my Stone family may have started in Tn and Ga and stopped in Ms before going on to Ar. My g- grandfather was James R. Stone, Jr. I don't know who his brothers and sisters were but he had an uncle named James and one named William who lived next door to him in Ar. He married Emma Clementine Jones. According to census records, he was born in Ms and she in Ar. His father was born in Tn. Among his children were, William Sigmond, Burl, Arlie, Deak, Nova, Pearl, Ida Pearlee. My grandmother had cousins named Sammy, Jimmy, Charlie that I know of. There were 3 Jim Stones in the area who were all related. Sleepy Jim, Bogle Jim and another. Jan Gilliam Reynolds

    2. My STONEs moved from Monroe Co, Ga about 1877 to Marshall Co, Al. There is a Rebecca STONE (1872-1919?), schoolteacher, no marriage info. There were about 3 other (non?-) related STONE families in the county then, and others in neighboring counties later for sure. Great-great Grandpa had several older brothers in Ga: one went to Texas, some died, oldest one I have not yet tracked down. I have a 47-year old cousin, Becky M (STONE), but I think she has never been married to a Mr Rogers. 2. Witnesses - JAMES and ELIZA STONE This is the piece I needed to be (almost) convinced that Mary is my great- grandfather's sister. Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about Mary Stone of Houghton?

    1. [STONE-L] Alvah STONE (b.1797 CT)
    2. B.Yamagami
    3. Hi y'all! It's been awhile since I posted my STONE line. I'm certain that there are MANY newcomers to the list. Please check to see if you know anything on this line that might help or steer me in the right direction! I found my Alvah (possibly Thomas Alvah) STONE first on the Fayette Co. (1850), then on the Rush Co. (1860) Indiana census records. He is listed with his wife, Mary and two daughters, Clarissa (b.1826CT) and Lucy Cornelia (b.1836 April 27th NY). I believe he may have been the Alvah Stone born to Thomas and Polly Parmalee in Litchfield CT on Jan 20, 1797. The only 'catch' is that I found him in a book (The Family of William Stone by Edward Perry Stone, Sr. [1980]) as dying in 1850. He dosen't list how or where he died. I have tried to contact him several times over the last few years, but have never recieved any reply. Does anybody out there know any more about this family?? I only have a few pages from the book (which stop with the family of Thomas and Polly). By the way, the other children of Thomas and Polly were: Fanny b.9 July 1784 Norman b.19 May 1787 Orange b.2 July 1789 Leman b.20 Feb 1793 Julius b. 12 Nov 1794 Alvah b. 20 Jan 1797 Russell b. 26 Nov 1798; father of Rev Hiram Stone. Clarissa b. 9 Dec 1803 Augustus b. 30 Dec 1807 I do find it interesting that Thomas had a brother named Jehiel whose daughter, Sally married a Hiram Woodcock. Their son, Frederick S. (b.1833) could be the same one who signed in my gr. aunt Lucy's guest album years later as 'your cousin, Frederick S. Woodcock'. There is also a note dated Jan 1856 by 'cousin, Wilbur F. Stone'. Also, there are two marriages listed in THE BARBOUR COLLECTION showing an Alvah Stone marrying 1st to Amy Grannis (of Litchfield) on Oct. 5, 1834; and 2nd, to a Cordelia (could it have been Cornelia M. (Mary??) Buell on Nov. 1, 1840. I KNOW that these are alot of "ifs", that's why I'm asking for your HELP!!! Thanks and best wishes to ALL of you! Becky
