Hi Jeff, I'm trying to connect my Lewis STONE b abt 1820 (Canada) to the Uriah STONE family. My Lewis is first recorded (by my finding) in the 1850 Benson, Rutland, VT Census, age 30, b (Canada) with wife Mary, age 17 (other records show her name as CASSAVAH/CASSAVAUX/CASAVANT) with infant, Lewis. In 1860 this family is, also, in Benson with four children (Henry, age 9, Sufrie(sp), age 6, Misline (sp), age 4, and infant, Elizabeth. "Misline" is my Marsha/Marcia, b 1856 m 1870 Mt Holly, VT Samuel BRYSON. One of Uriah's sons, Rev. George Washington STONE, was b 1777 in Piermont, NH and m Judith STEVENS in Newbury, Orange, VT, (one child born) rem to Berkshire, Franklin, VT (some children born) and ended up in Dunham, QC where more children were born and where George and Judith died. Do you know if the "Stone Connections" lists any of this line? Rev. George Washington STONE is grf to Pres. Chester Alan Arthur. TIA......Janet Ross

Treasure, I appreciate the additional info from "Stone Connections". The problem I am having now is that Uriah who married Hepsibah Hadley would have had to have been William's brother because of the birth dates. I estimate William's date of birth at abt 1743 because of the children listed in his will. Jane, who married Thomas Spearman was born about 1775 based on the birth of Wesley which was about 1795/6. From Jane's mention in William's will it appears that she was the third child and even if she was the first, his birth date would be 1750 to 1755. Even if we go to 1760, Uriah was only 12yrs old in 1760. Is there any evidence that Uriah who married Hepsibah was the "Longhunter" or that he was ever in KY? It seems as if there may be another family from VA that used similar names. Is "Stone Connections" still available and if so do you know how I can get ahold of a copy? I appreciate the info. Good evening to the STONE list members, While working on my BLOOD line, no pun intended, I found an ELIZABETH STONE who married MOSES BLOOD June 27, 1745, at Groton, MA. ELIZABETH was born September 26, 1725, daughter of JOHN and ELIZABETH (FARWELL) STONE. MOSES was born November 25, 1724, died October 9, 1792, at Shirley, MA, son of JOHN and JOANNA (NUTTING) BLOOD. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Rick in Thailand

Uriah Stone, named executor of the estate, had a son named Asbury. 3. Jane Stone. Married 1st. Thomas Spearman, had the following children: 1. Wesley Spearman marreid Elizabeth Miller. 2. Ann Wisdom Spearman married William Shelton. 3. Thomas William Spearman married Nancy Shelton. (my ancestors). 4. Ann Stone married a Smith. 5. Elijah Stone. Diane, Sure wished I could help but my line of Stone's only goes to June 2, 1844 in Mississippi, her name is Sarah Adeline STONE. Don't know siblings or parents. Sorry Lesley [email protected]
I suggest that all of us who are online should email our Congressmen and Senators to give them the opportunity to lead the charge for compelling the Census Bureau to include women's "real" names, namely their maiden names, on Census documents! Maybe if they receive a zillion or so messages they'll get the point, but don't count on it. Even better, why not email the Census Bureau directly at [email protected], and while you're at it, let them know we want everyone to be counted, with no sampling....please be calm. This comment does not reflect a "political" agenda, but a "genealogical" one. By the way, The Census Bureau maintains an excellent website, offering many different pages, although none seem to be truly scintillating...but, you can find the Congressional Affairs Office (NO JOKE) at http://www.census.gov/cao/www/congress/appormen.html, and they will tell you more than you had every dreamed possible about Census 2000 and Congressional Apportionment......your tax dollars at work.
