Leslie, What are the dates on Travis and his children? Uriah Stone who was a son of William and Ann Stone of Jackson County,TN had son named Asbury. William left a will in 1819 naming both Uriah and his son. I wonder if your Ttravis might be connected somehow since one of his sons haad the middle name of Asberry? I remember hearing about a book, "Simon Stone Genealogy, Ancestry and Descendants of Deacon Simon Stone of Watertown Mass. 1320-1926 by J. Gardner Bartlett." I don't recall where I can get a copy of this book. Can someone help me find it? I know it will be a copy from microfilm, but that would be great. I hear the book is well worth the efforts. Subj: history Date: 98-08-17 21:13:32 EDT From: [email protected] (sestone) Reply-to: [email protected] To: [email protected] hello I have been doing the Stones from 1980 and have 12000 names in a book. I am still digging up what ever that I can. A lot of my family that I haven't got into the records is in Portland IN , My family came from Surry Co NC to Gallia Co Ohio then to Salmonie IN I can't get anyone to help me out there. Maybe here on the internet I may find what I am looking for , I will give what I have to anyone that is interested in family history I have tried to send all of the below and can't get it to send. [email protected] HTTP://WWW.POTIFOS.COM/TPG/BIO/STONE.HTML I have sent his name in to the Stone listing but since I sent from my address and in the body put Subscribe with his address, I am not sure what will happen. He needs to be on the Stone list.
As you may remember, I have been up against a blank wall in trying to find out anything about the Stones. I did recently find out that Rufus was in the Confederate Army and the VA Confederate list (?) offered a place for queries and this is an answer I received. It has helped in that it has given me Margaret's maiden name and the marriage date and place for Margaret and Hiram. It also shows a child, Mary E., whom I did not have. She must have been born in March 1850 since she is shown as 3 months old and the 1850 census date was June 1. I hope this will help someone else. Here is some Stone information. Hiram Stone and Margaret Pane were married 28 May 1836 in Giles Co, VA. >From the 1850 Giles Co, VA Federal Census: Hiram Stone 35 m Farmer NC Peggy 39 f VA Elisha W 12 m VA Attended school Eliza 11 f VA Rufus F 2 m VA Mary E 3/12 f VA Rufus Stone appears on a roster of G B Chapman's Co, Light Arty. Chapman's Company was organized 25 Apr 1862 in Monroe County, VA (now WV). The Company participated in the following battles/skirmishes/campaigns: 10 May 1862 Giles Court House Sep 1862 Kanawha Campaign 10 Sep 1862 Fayetteville 13 Sep 1862 Charleston 29 Jun--4 Jul 1863 Expedition to Beverly 26-27 Aug 1863 White Sulphur Springs 6 Nov 1863 Droop Mountain Nov 1863 Knoxville Campaign 15 May 1864 New Market Jun 1864 Lynchburg Campaign 9 Jul 1864 Monocacy 19 Sep 1864 Winchester 22 Sep 1864 Fisher's Hill 19 Oct 1864 Cedar Creek 2 Mar 1865 Waynesborough And, of course, if anyone has further information, I will be so grateful!

Hi STONE researchers: I'm still trying to get more info on our STONE/MILLER/YOUNG family. Posthumus wrote: > About our STONE line. They were from Pilly and Bucks Co., PA. William was born about 1762, died 12/4/1831. He married Dorothea(don't know if this is a first or middle name) MILLER of Quakerstown, PA on 11/13/1785 or 86?. I do not have Dorothea's birth or death dates, or her parents' names. We know of one child, Dorothea, born 1/24/1785, or 86?, Phila. PA; died 7/5/1850, Phila.,PA, She married George YOUNG 1805-1810, of Phila. George YOUNG was born about 1782, Phila.,PA died 6/5/1844, Phila.,PA. Unfortunately I don't know when the STONEs(STEINs) came to this country, who William's parents were, or if he had any siblings. I do know he fought in the Rev.War on the" Delaware Sloop of War". In his pension records(1838), Dorothea, then age 72, claimed she married William 11/13/1786. Yet their daughter was supposedly born 1/24/1785(from other documentation). Is this a misprint, or a mis-statement due to age? or fact? I don't know. Another statement in the pension, In 1820, when William applied for his pension, he stated he still had two children at home, a son 10 and a daughter 14(no names given). If this was the case, it would have made Dorothea about 40 and 44 years old when she had the children and these children are too old to be our Dorothea STONE who married George YOUNG. These families lived in the Passyunk/Moyamensing area of Phila. This in all of south Philly. It extends from South St. south and from the Schuylkill to the Delaware Rivers. They belonged to St. Michael's & Zion Lutheran CHurch there. William STONE was buried in the Blockley Baptist Cemetery on 12/5/1831. (Blockley was a township on the west banks of the Schuylkill River near or on the grounds of the Ole Alms House.) Let me know if anything looks familiar. > > HAPPY HUNTING. > > > Rose In a Separate message I'll send my surname list.

JOHN DUDLEY STONE was born 25Dec1819 in Montgomery County, MO and died in 1864 in Washington County, AR. He married Luelza McKinney, born 12Aug1831 and died 27Sep1876, on 16Mar1848 in Washington County, AR. The story goes that John Dudley was murdered by a Rev. Ingram and one of John Dudley's sons witnessed it. Several years later that son shot and killed his father's murderer. John Dudley Stone was the son of John S. Stone, born 26Nov1789 in North Carolina and died abt 1835 in Arkansas, and Elizabeth Isabella Wright, born 08Feb1791 and died before 1860 in Arkansas. Cheryl in Arkansas
Cheryl, You mention a JOHN DUDLEY STONE, born 25 Dec 1819. Can you tell me anything more about him? My grandmother was named Daisy Stone (m John Bowen in Raleigh c 1895) and her parents were John L. & Mary Amis Stone who married in 1858 in NC. I think every son in the family after that must have had Dudley for a middle name and I've never been able to find out why. Thanks much. Marcie F. Bowen-Astley
Would anyone have a copy of this and have information on an Ebenezer STONE = possibly born in Conn. in 1771? His sons were Horatio Odell STONE and Hiram Hoyt STONE both born in Victor NY. There might have been others in the family but these are the only 2 that I have records of. Joan
Hi Kelly! Wish I could help you on this one. I too am looking for the link up on a George W. (William) STONE. Mine fought in the Civil War on the Union side and at least settled in Arkansas after the war was over. I have no idea where he was living before the war. When I was looking at the census index there were over 50 George Stone's as heads of household listed in the census before the war and the same number in the census after the war (with a few George Stone's listed as killed during the war). There sure were lot of them! What little info I have on him comes from the 1870 census and an Aunt. He was born about 1838 in Indiana (census info), and that his father's name was also George William Stone, a name that was used a lot in the family as well as John L. and Josephine (names of 2 of his children). The way the story goes is that shortly after he died (around 1875 with the children still real young) his wife died and his father-in-law got the children and took them home to raise. Among his daughters possessions was an extensive history on George William STONE's family but because George had fought on the Union side, his father-in-law (a slave owner) hated him and burned everything! I have a feeling that when I finally find his siblings and parents, he will link to one of the many Stone family trees that I've seen. With the George W. Stone name having been so popular in his family line, he will quite possibly link to your Stone line. There is a lot of documentation on STONE families in Virginia and I'm sure you'll be able to link your George W. Stone. Best of luck! I am searching for information on my gggrandfather Ezekiel A. Stone. He is a mystery. We know nothing of his background or his family. He was born c. 1800. The only known records are in Laurens County, SC in 1936 where he was listed in Deed as Trustee of Pleasant Grove (Springs) Methodist Church when additional land was deeded to the church. The 1840 Census of Laurens County shows him with 4 children. Tradition handed down in the family is that he was from Georgia. At some point, before 1850, Ezekiel went to Georgia, supposedly to visit relatives and did not return. He did not appear with the family in the 1850 census, although there had been no notification of death. He was married to Naomi "Oney" Yeargin, daughter of Oney Bowles and John Yeargin of Laurens County, SC. (b. May 16, 1901). Any help on our mysterious Zeke will be welcomed. Margaret Todd

In reply to Karen of Ohio, my gggrandfather was WESLEY P. STONE, born 08 Nov 1813 in Clark County, KY, died 1905 in Washington County, AR. He married LUCINDA EMELIA ROGERS, born 30 Dec 1824 in Georgia and died 29 Oct 1905 in Washington County, AR. My Wesley was the son of JOHN S. STONE, born 26 Nov 1789 in NC and died about 1835 in Arkansas. John married ELIZABETH ISABELLA WRIGHT, born 08 Feb 1791 in Pittsylvania County, VA and died before 1860 in Arkansas, in Clark County, KY on 27 Jul 1812. John and Elizabeth had eleven other children: SHELTON A. STONE, born 17 Sep 1816; SUZANNAH STONE, born 03 Mar 1820; JOHN DUDLEY STONE, born 25 Dec 1819; MALINDA STONE, born 30 mar 1813; JOSEPH A. STONE, born 24 Aug 1823; LEROY D. STONE, born 15 Mar 1828; WILLIS SHACKELFORD STONE, born 04 Mar 1830; THOMAS G. STONE, born 28 Apr 1832; KISIAH STONE, born 23 Nov 1817; and ISABEL C. STONE, born 09 May 1825. I have heard, but as yet have not confirmed, that JOHN S. STONE was the brother of a PARKER F. STONE and the son of an ALLEN STONE who was born in England. If any of these names ring a bell with anyone, I have a great deal of additional information, and am always looking for more! Cheryl in Arkansas
Does anyone have the URL for any Stone Family Home Page on the Internet? I am interested in Stones with roots in VA., N.C., GA., S.C. Diane
My son in Boston found this spot and printed off a listing of Stones who were in politics. The Stone listing he printed is about 2 pages and is quite interesting. Of course, many names other than Stone are listed. It is a site called The Political Graveyard and I found it fascinating. http://www.potifos.com/tpg/
