Stone is my ggg gf, born in 1818 in North Carolina. He married Mary Nolan/Nolen, born in 1819 in NC. They moved to Tennessee, then Holly Springs, Mississippi, and finally settled in Ouachita County, Arkansas. Their children were Sarah Elizabeth, Martha A., James W., Mary Elizabeth, John A., Thomas W., Nancy, Texanna, Lemuel Madison, and Wesley. The surnames of spouses of some of their children were WALKER, JORDAN, and MOORE. Does anyone recognize these Stones who are living near John in the 1840's and 1850's: George F. 1. [STONE-L] Stone Query
2. Forrest W. Price
3. Hi, This is my first posting to this list although I've been subscribed for several weeks. I am researching William Patrick Stone born about 1814 in Tennessee, married 1838 to Amanda Susan Ragan in Hinds Co., Mississippi and died 6 Dec 1855 in Delta, Louisiana. The only clue I have as to his father is a William A. Stone who is found in Hinds Co MS in 1847, b about 1790. William Patrick named one of his sons James Armstrong so I've assumed the William A. may be William Armstrong. Also a Thompson E. Stone was in the household of William Patrick Stone in the 1850 US Census of Madison Parish LA. Thompson was shown as a "student" and born in 1832. I thought he might be a nephew as he seems too young to be William Patrick's brother. Another son of William Patrick's was named Coleman. I have found Coleman Stones in Wilson Co., TN but can't make any connection to the MS family. Any help appreciated. Peggy Price

2. Joe, In answer to you query dated Oct. 26, I have been trying to connect with these Stones for sometime. I know there has to be a connection somewhere. You mentioned a McAlester Ok connection which makes me think even more that we connect. My Uncle Sigmond (Sig) Stone left Independence Co Ar in the early 1900s and went to McAlester where he raised a family. I can give you the names of 2 ralatives of the Newton Co, Ar Stones who live in Springdale, Ar if you are intrested. I found Little Berry Stone living in the, I believe, the Arnett household in Madison Co. in the mid 1800s. If I remember right, there was also a Gilliam living in the same household. I am researching the Gilliams. I have connection with the Young family also. Jan Reynolds

1. Re: [STONE-L] "Ask Jeeves"
2. Ed you are wonderful!!!! I was shakin' the family tree last night after finding the first names of ancestors in the 1850 Census. I knew there had been a couple of books written on the COLEMAN's but had no names to search for. I put the title of one of the books in "Ask Jeeves" Ask Jeeves and what a treasure I found! Ancestors all the way back to 1625 arriving in this country in 1638! My poor printer had to be praying for a power failure! The most wonderful part is that the first 3 generations lived in the very same county that I do! I don't have any family in this area and didn't expect to find any ancestors here. It is indeed a very small world.............. I can see that this winter will be filled with trips to the library and old cemeteries looking for these newly found ancestors. Thank you so much for sharing this search engine that landed 6 generations in one swoop. Sherry Stone

1. [STONE-L] Cornelia Stone of post Revolutionary War Western MA
2. I am seeking information on Cornelia Stone and her ancesters. The only information that I currently have is that she married David Crossman, who was born about 1775 and died March 12, 1836 in Egremont, MA. They had at least 2 children, David born about 1805 and Cornelia born about 1804. The family lived in Great Barrington and Sheffield, MA, then Hillsdale, NY before moving to Egremont. I would gladly exchange descendant information for her ancestry. Thanks, Dick Bucknum (John, Edwin, Comer, Cornelia Crossman, Cornelia Stone)

1. [STONE-L] Adin Stone Family
2. Bob James
3. I have had some communication from some listers who feel that Adin STONE's daughter Lydia might be one of the lost members of their family. I have founf the following writing done by William Gideon Closson which may aid them in their research. Others may find it interesting for its glimpses of years gone by. GRANDFATHER TALES. ADIN STONE 1795-1888 No.4 My great grandfather, Adin Stone passed away when I was 8 years old and I remember him not only as a very old man but as a sort of teacher who helped develop my mechanical tendencies. The old Closson House had a front porch and steps with parapets on each side of the steps where the old gentleman liked to sit in the sun. He always carried a folding two-foot rule with brass edges, a great attraction to me. He would let me use it as long as I would measure the lines of the parapets but if I started to open and close it and play with it he would take it away from me. I therefor learned to measure with it and to keep at it under his strict and watchful eye, a lesson I have not forgotten - maybe not engineering, but good training. Adin Stone was a Veteran of the War of 1812 - I have his record from The National Archives at Washington, DC. "He enlisted at Luzerne, Warren Co., N.Y. and served as Private under Capt Gideon Orton's Company of N.Y. Militia from Sept 13 to Dec 12, 1814. He married Philena Orton May 11, 1817 In Luzerne N.Y. He was granted a pension on Certificate 2954 under act of Feb 14, 1871, of $6 per month. Adin's father was Joseph Stone but the name of his mother is unknown. An obituary of' Adin Stone says he was born in Mass. Oct. 19 1795 and when about 5 months old his parents moved to Luzerne, N.Y. and that he was the oldest of 9 children. He died Aug 6 1888 at Providence, Saratoga Co., N.Y at the home of his daughter, Susan Stone wife of Gideon Closson Jr. Adin Stone had 8 children: 1 Salina Stone 1818-1895 m John D. Morgan 2 Darius Stone 1819 - m Rowena Hinckley 3 Abigail Stone 1820-1889 m Joseph Waite 4 Susan Stone 1824-1895 m Gideon Closson 5 Harriet Stone 1826-1898 m Iaaac L. Walsh, MD 6 Miriam Stone 1828-1860 m Irvin Kasson 7 Lydia Stone 1830-1855 8 Sarah Eliza 1841-1906 m Milo K. Waite, MD. Of course I was too young to talk to Adin Stone about the War of 1812-1814 or ask about his mother or his children at the time when such information was remembered. Adin Stone's wife, Philena Orton, died in 1849 but he never married again. During the last years of his life he visited among his children but mostly made his home with his daughter Susan. Although there were many horses at the old homestead Adin Stone would never ride, but always walk winter or summer, even to church when the family rode to church. Grandmother Closson used to watch him from the windows as sometimes he would fall in the snow but always managed to get up again and walk on. Perhaps the old gentleman knew what was best for him as he always walked and lived to be 93 years of age older than any other of the Closson family we know about except Stillman Thomas Closson who was born Jun 16. 1853 and died Dec 29, 1952 lacking 6 months and 18 days of reaching 100 years.
