    2. Audrey Growt
    3. STONE, CHARLES & JANE-- Looking for more information on them. I know they were in the Township of Westminister, Middlesex County, London District, Ontario, Canada in 1848. My direct relative's name is RHODA (STONE) GROAT. She was born abt 1804 somewhere in upper Canada of English parents. She and her husband eventually moved to Whitby, Canada and then in1854 to the US ending up in MN. Other names I am interested in are of the same areas in Canada and the same time frame. ANNA STONE and WILLIAM STONE. Audrey Growt <GROAT, GROWT, STONE, HARTLEY>

    1. [STONE-L] Stone dit Desroches
    2. Welcome to the anglecized Stone world!. The story goes in our family that when you gggrandfather settled in Oswego, he was Catholic and sent his children to Catholic school. The nuns there told them that they were no longer DesRoches, but Stone and Stone they have been ever since. A slight variation on the Ellis Island changes. Our ancestor was Jean Baptiste DesRoches who married a Margureite T? in 1845 in Montreal according to the Canada Archives record. Other than that, we have no record of when he arrived who his parents were. sue [email protected] Southampton, NY

    3. To all on the STONE List: I've enjoyed my stay on the list thinking I may be connected with one of the many discussed STONE lines of N.E., but have just discovered my Lewis/Louis STONE b 1815/16 Canada m Mary/Marie CASAVA? is Louis DUQUET/DUQUETTE (prob. dit DESROCHES) of Que. Their M.R. of 1848 in Benson, Rutland, VT lists Marie CASSAVOIR m Louis DUQUETTE. Someone on the Compuserve Gene. Forum explained the probable DUQUET/DUQUETTE dit DESROCHES possibility, therefore, change of name to STONE. I do go back to Simon and Gregory STONE, so have legit STONE connections, but wonder if someone can help with this Canada line. I'm staying on for a while to see if there's any help for this (STONE) line, but wanted to thank everyone who has tried to help, and say I've enjoyed our conversations.....Janet Ross

    2. I would like to respectfully request that subscriberswho post to the list could put the state in the subject line. This would help me and other subscribers to weed through the many STONES that appear on this list. I could just glimpse the state and decide whether to investigate. Thank you. sue [email protected] Southampton, NY

    3. Shirley, Isn't this fantastic??? I'm also a descendant of George and Kerranhappa Stone. My line goes something like this: George Washington Stone >> Adolphus Wakefield Stone >> Amos Stone >> George Cousins Stone >> Marvin Stone >> Terri Stone Reichert (ME). I agree, it's like dear old George was hatched instead of being born. Do you have any info on brothers or sisters of George? You can see what I've been able to gather up on my FTM web page: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/i/Terri-L-Reichert/ We live in TX, what part of the country are you in? Hope to hear from you soon! Your Cousin, Terri P.S. What relation does that make us?

    3. A couple of you asked me about my Stones from VA, SC, TN, and AR. Here is a note I wrote a while back on my Stone line: Looking for info. on John Stone b. abt. 1750/1765, ,,Virginia. d. Nov 1815/1817, ,Spartanburg, SC. Married Mary ?? b.abt. 1760, d. 1851, Marion Co., AL. Marriage date probably abt. 1775, ,Hanover Co.,Virginia . I am told they had 13 children, but I have 15 possible names which are: Jefferson (?) Stone, Henry Stone b. abt 1776, William Stone (m. Frances) b. abt 1778, Aaron Stone (m. Susannah Pool or a Rebecca?) b. abt 1779, Seaburn (Seburn) b. abt 1782, John Stone (m. Annie Lyle) b. abt 1782, Samuel Stone (m. Polly) b. abt 1784, Ambrose (m. Matilda "Tilla" Smith) b. bet. 1786-1790, Moses Stone (m. Catherine Smith) b. bet 1786-1790, Hillory Stone (m. Martha "Matilda" Bagwell) b. abt 1787, Edward Stone b. abt 1788, Jane (?) Stone (m. Pittsylvania, VA and d. 14 Aug 1857, McLemoresville,Carroll,Tenn. He married Susannah (Suzanna) Pool, abt. 1803, ,Spartanburg Co, South Carolina. She was b. 1784/1786, ,W. Pittsylvania,Virginia. D. 24 May 1859, McLemoresville, Carroll, TN. I have also been told that her name MIGHT be Rebecca ?? and that Aaron might have been born in 1795. Aaron and wife had 13 children, and I descend from their son, William Martin Stone b. 1 Jan 1825, ,Spartanburg,South Carolina. He died 1881, in Marmaduke,Greene Co., AR. m. Sarah Jane Cribbs in 1846. I show they had 7 children and I descend from their son, James Baucher Stone b.1855, Gibson County, TN. He died 13 Feb 1930, Marmaduke, Greene Co., Arkansas and was married to Frances Arlene "Lena" Ross and his first wife was "Mittie." Here is a little more info. I have received, "After marriage to ? 3. Cindy, I've been researching for info on my gggGrandfather, George Washington Stone b 1812-1815 probably in Lincoln Co, TN. 2. Well Cindy, I dont know exactly. My great great great grandfather was James Stone. He had a son named GreenBerry Stone. GreenBerry Stone however was in Texas by the early 1840's. However they were in Mo at one time in Barry county. I would like to check into this line as it may be a breakthrough in this family. I have had a great deal of trouble finding family connections back past James. Jack McGehee
