Hello, I have been working Stone's seems like forever and cannot find out ........parents of Asbury Stone b. 1803 NC or SC and wife Asenith b. 1816 SC. Issue of 1850 Anderson Co, SC census Elizabeth 17 Louise Jane Dec. 22, 1834 mine m. Rev. James Washington Wilson c 1850 d. February 24, 1904, buried at Barker's Creek Baptist Church Labon Milton 1837 m. Luannie Martin Stephen H. (could be Hampton) 1841 and Asbury H. 1843 The father Asbury had died by the 1850 census, and no clue to Asenith. I have two William Stone's that are conjectured as his father. One m. Anna Asbury, the other Anna Wilson....and of course =, I could be WAY off base. Can anyone shed light on this situation? I would be most appreciative. Joy Hinson
Can anyone on the Stone List give me the dates this article was written or is it several combined passages from numerous books or just the DELUSIONS of a person taking things out of context from several books and adding to - or deleting the facts !! Diane The name of the article is "Origin of the Stone Families of Virginia" by E. A. Stone, D. D. In "old" Rappahannock another group of Stones are found, Oct. 20, 1672, William Stone bought of Giles Cale 200 acres of land. This is the earliest record of him in this country. Later he purchased various other tracts of land, until he owned over one thousand acres. His will is dated 1704. He left a wife Sarah and five living children--one daughter had died earlier. He died about 1710-1711 as appears from the court records. The widow lived about twenty years after William Stone's death. There was living in the same county Col. John Stone, who was prominent in its affairs from 1672 until about 1691-2. He married Sarah Walker, widow of John Walker, and when he died left only one child, a daughter. Col. John Stone is credited by some people as being William Stone's father. He was born in 1636, as his parents were married in 1635, and died June 1699 in Richmond Co., Virginia. I have that he married Mary Nelson, although other sources credit his wife as being Sarah Walker. I have that he had four children, William Stone, John Stone Jr. Hannah Stone, and Ben Stone. He married his wife in Caroline County, Virginia, according to some sources. He was supposed to be the son of George Stone, immigrant to Virginia from London, England, and Mary Vernon. George Stone married Mary Vernon in 1635 in either London or Virginia. George Stone is credited by some people as being the son of Thomas Stone and Elizabeth Lufkyn. They lived in London, England. Thomas Stone was described as being a haberdasher, whatever that means. Thomas was a haberdasher of Cateton Street in London, England. He had four sons and two daughters. Evidence points to George Stone who immigrated to Virginia and called founder of Stones in Virginia, as a son of Thomas and Elizabeth. The children of other brothers of Thomas migrated to America. William, nephew of Thomas and cousin of George, became the Governor of Maryland. Thomas Stone was a son of Richard Stone and Isabel Girdier. Richard was born 1540 Parish of Twiston, Lancashire and died 24 June 1606. Isabel was born l553, daughter of John Girdier of Carr House. They were married 12 Jan 1572. Richard Stone was the son of William Stone de Twiste, born 1490. Parish of Twiston, Lancashire, England. He married Elizabeth daughter of John Bradley. The Parish of Twiston is in the northern part of England near the Yorkshire border. According to other old Stones, the Stone family was from Great Bromley, Essex, England. Simon Stone born 1505 was the ancestor of that family of Stones. I looked at Genforum under Simon Stone, and all his descendants seem to live in New England. But he could be the ancestor of the Stone family.
This is a marriage announcement....can anyone identify or connect to the STONES listed here? John Groat to Anna M. Stone, both of Whitby, Feb. 4, 1836. Witnesses: Charles Stone & Nancy Calkins. Audrey

I am trying to make a connection between CHARLES & JANE STONE who lived in the London District (Ontario, Canada) in 1848 and WILLIAM STONE. Both of these men are on a 1846-7 directory showing them living in Reach Township which is just north of Whitby, Ont. Canada. Does the name INISON STONE ring a bell with anyone? The name was very hard to read on a death certificate and I am not positve it is INISON. He had a daughter named Rhoda who was born about 1804 in Que. Canada. I would welcome any help!!! I am seeking my ancestor, Hester Stone, parentage unknown, who was born about 1801 in Madison Co., Indiana. She married abt. 1818 to Jonas Goodnow, and had 6 daughters, Mary (abt 1819) Eva (abt 1821) Alma (abt 1823) Harriet (abt 1825) Lucy (abt 1827) and Arminita (abt 1829). Then she had 1 son, family tradition says he was born to her and an unknown lonely soldier while her husband was away to war??) But this son was raised by Jonas Goodnow nevertheless, and later became a soldier also as family tradition says his military uniform always hung in the closet and was always a bone of contention and constant reminder of her affair with another man while Jonas Goodnow was away. Jonas, though raising him, never accepted him as his son, and his uniform was always there to remind him even after he had grown. This son, we have no name for other than it was her only son, but born to another man. I believe he may have used the Goodnow name, however, but not sure. She died in Madison Co., Indiana in 1842, so her son would have been only 10 when she died. I have watched these inquiries anxiously for Hester for many months and finally decided perhaps I should make an inquiry, as I have never found her or any of her ancestry or descendancy. Could any of you help me? Patsy Putnam

Maudtx, you have your info crossed. The Stone who died 1795 in Madison Co KY was BENJAMIN STONE, not DANIEL. He did have a wife BELIEVED but not yet PROVEN to be Sarah Lewis (her name was Sarah at any rate) and he did have a son named Daniel. This Daniel, LIKEWISE, is believed but not 100% PROVEN to be the same Daniel Stone who appears in Warren Co KY later on. Here is a complete (as complete as I have, anyway) Family Group Sheet for Daniel Stone of Warren Co KY. My husband is a descendant of Daniel and his first wife, Susannah McFadin, through their daughter SUSAN who married William Jenkins. They married 21 Feb 1804 in Warren CO KY It is unclear whether Rosy was the mother of any of Daniel's children; if she was, Alphine was her only child: 3. Alphine C. Stone born 26 Oct 1806 died 22 July 1877 buried Mt Olivet married 6 Jan 1835 Adam C Hamil Wife #3 of Daniel Stone was Elizabeth Fox, dau of Henry Fox. They were married before 1808. John M Stone born 9 March 1815 died 11 Aug 1844. I am not clear about if he married or not; from his estate settlement it seems he did not. His father admin his estate. 7. Erasmus D. Stone (he is believed to be buried in Mt Olivet in a grave where the name is almost gone from the marker, the dates are hard to read but seem to say 15 July 1817-10 May 1848...however, he was known to be alive in 1850. It is possible his date of death was not 1848) He is mentioned in Daniel's will along with his children...Daniel and Erasmus had a big falling out over some money and Daniel thought his children might try to break the will. Who Erasmus married is unknown to me 8. Armelda E. Stone her tombstone is likewise worn, born 1 Sept 1818/19 (probably 18) died either 1 or 4 Seot 1844, married 4 Aug 1840 William Jackson 9.
