Hi, Looking for information on Brokenbough Stone (1823-1881), son of Andrew C. Stone (1792-bef. 1870), all West Virginia. Possible descendant of George Stone, 1620, Jamestown. Thanks for any help. Charlie McNett, Bethesda, MD.
Does anyone have a marriage record for Edward Philpott and Elinor Bayne, Maryland around 1660?
I haven't posted for a while, but have been very busy with genealogy. I am still trying to connect my (Henry) Enoch Stone to his family. In the 1850 census of Carter County, Kentucky he is listed between a Cutbert Stone and an Iraby Stone, Enoch is the youngest - all have the same lineage data - except somehow Enoch's data has a line through it. The data says that his parents are from NC - Enoch has later stated that his family is from VA - still other data says that his parents are from KY. Enoch was born in 1826 and that might have a bearing on the VA/KY discrepancy. Enoch married Polly (Mary) Horsley in Carter County in 1847 and it may have been his second marriage. I see so many "close calls" that I'm sure there is some information out there for this family.

I am so offended by your email...to assume that anyone who wanted to keep "on topic" is less than patriotic or not truly concerned about what is going on in this insane world we live in! Our List managers work very hard to maintain civility and order on these lists. If everyone who had an opinion used this list as a forum to voice those opinions, we would hardly have space to do our genealogy work. I love my country and grieve for those who lost loved ones. I also welcome the opportunity to get away from the horrors of 9/11/01 and use my genealogy work as a way to get away from the insanity around me!
Unsubscribe me It is hard to comprehend that some of you are so darn concerned over the fact that there was a posting sent to the list that was not about genealogy. Maybe they just wanted to get it across so others are informed, as most of us may not know ALL that is going on. You people act like this is another planet you live on or something. And that what is going on with the terrorism is only going on in other countries; I don't think It has sunk in it is right here folks, and a lot of us may relax reading these e-mails on trying to find our past histories on our families but do you not think that some day a lot of the people that lost their lives in this National tragedy; that some of their relatives will be doing the same. If there is a list to join. Or if any of us is around to enjoy one. And to the lady that said; Excuse Me Is This What This List Is Really For. No it isn't. It is for people like you that may not be concerned for what is going on and the compassion for others especially the ones that are fighting right now to keep this Great Land we all live in Free so you can have your e-mails. I will get my information somewhere else. I am proud to be an American and so glad that I am free, to even send this mail. So too this I will let all of you holy than thou get back to reading your e-mail. I will pray that all of you can continue to do so. Rosemary, I am intrested in your Stone/Cochran connection. My grandfather was Eather Gilliam and his g-father was Harriss Gilliam. Harris was married to Elizabeth Cochran(my grandfather said they called themselves Caughorn when he was a child). The above Eather Gilliam, married Ida Pearlee Stone daughter of James Stone and granddaughter of Charles Stone. All my information on the Cochrans is in Independence and Lawrence Cos in AR. Also the Stones but I do know from census records these Stones were from MS. Jan Gilliam Reynolds
To All List Members: I realize that we all have feelings and thoughts of varying shades regarding the tragedy that on September 11 of this year. However, I would like to remind everyone that this particular list is for genealogy purposes relating to the Stone family. It's important to each member of this list to maintain our focus and not allow our discussions here to become completely off topic. I would appreciate it if everyone would resist the temptation to post unrelated material or opinions on this particular list. Rootsweb realized that with everything going on with our nation that there would be a need to voice condolences, sympathies, and thoughts. Therefore, they have provided a list for that purpose. I encourage anyone that may be interested to please read the following excerpt that was sent out by Rootsweb. Sincerely, Terri Stone Reichert Reichert, Smiley, & Stone List Manager booodles@flash.net "Because of the catastrophe that happened in the United States Tuesday, 11 Sept., 2001, MyFamily.com (RootsWeb.com and Ancestry.com) has created a special Message Board for those who wish to express or share condolences, sorrow, prayers, and thoughts for the victims, their families and friends. Hello Listers: I'm new to the list and really, really need help. Joseph STONE was born 1831-1833 Oxford, England (city or county is unknown). His parents are also unknown. However, he was NOT the son of Abraham and Mary Stone of Mapledurham, Oxfordshire, England. Joseph was in the US by 1850 as he is listed in the 1850 Sandcreek Twp, Jennings Co, IN census living in the home of William Stafford, who was born in PA In 1853 in Jackson Twp, Decatur Co, IN, Joseph was married to Hypatia Raymond, daughter of Louis and Anna Rockefeller Raymond. Joseph and Hypatia's children were: Martha Ann, William Henry and Sophia Rosalee. Who were Joseph's parents, when and where was he born? He is not listed in the 1841 Oxfordshire census. I did find a license for a wedding of William Henry Stone and Emily Morrell 25 May 1830, at St. Clement's Church in Oxford. Did this wedding actually take place? On Joseph's Civil War record he stated he was born in Oxford, England. I have never been able to locate his passage to the US either alone or with his parents. Thanks for your help. Carolyn, TX USA
My family is mostly from New York. I found a stone in a cemetery of my family that had Elhanan Stone 1826-1893, who served in the civil war. His parents were Rev. Isaac and Polly Aylesworth Stone. His wife was Luna Townsend (1832-1874) and their children were Isaac Albion 1853-1924, Frank Eleverett 1855-1856, Fremont 1857, Mary Madeline 1861, and Edith Bell 1872-1874. Ethel, I find neither a Hiram Stone nor a Pane in "Stones of Surry" (2d edition, 1955). The only Curry I find was married to John Venable. Consider the search thorough, since I used the digital edition of the book (which has no index worthy of the name) and the "find" routine of my word processing software. Is there anyone who has a copy of this book and would look up a name for me? I have my Hiram Stone born 1812, NC. Hiram married Margaret (Peggy) Pane. Both died in 1863 -- one in January and one in February. I show five children for them: 1) Elisha; 2) Eliza; 3) Rufus Fulton; 4) Mary E; 5) David Smoot. I have been told this Hiram is the son of John Stone and Betsy Curry but I cannot verify this. According to this source, he is shown in this book with this information. I find it hard to believe since Betsy was born ca. 1755 which would make her about 57 when Hiram was born. I would be very grateful if someone would check this for me. Hi my name is David Stone from Ravenna, Ohio. My "stone" wall is Nathaniel Stone who was born abt 1785, I can not connect him to any parents or siblings. He married Sarah Jane Hollenbeck from Canaan and she was the daughter of Samuel Hollenbeck and Susannah Woodruff. In 1810 Nathaniel and Sarah had a daughter Caroline and in the fall of 1810 they headed for Ohio where they setteled in Hudson, Ohio. Some info that has been in my family reported that Nathaniel was from Goshen, CT. and his father was Jerome Stone, I have not been able to confirm this. Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
