Stiles, 71, formerly of 14482 North Street, died Friday morning at Hallmark Nursing Centre, Carthage, where he had been a resident since July, 27, 2001. Mr. Stiles served as a state trooper with the New York State Police in the Lake Champlain and Albany areas, retiring in 1982, when he moved to Adams Center. He was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Beaver Falls, son of Edward and Mary (Briggs) Stiles. He graduated from beaver Falls High School and worked for J.P. Lewis Paper Co. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea as an infantryman and later in the Signal Corps, until his discharge in 1954. He married Betty Finnegan in 1957. She died July 17, 1960. He was a member of American Legion Don Rounds Post 596 and the South Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5344, both of Adams. Surviving are a son, Michael E. Barnes Corners; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Michael O’Brien, Rouses Point; his mother, Connie Ramos, Watertown; a grandson; and four nieces. There will be no funeral or calling hours. The body was cremated. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Donations may be made to South Jefferson Rescue Squad, P.O.
