Need Baptismal Record for Lost Stiles Ancestor Need baptismal record for Benjamin L. Stiles, my 3-great grandfather who was born in some Western New York location in 1804, possibly in Chautauqua Town, which was formerly in Genesee later Chautauqua County. I want to tie B. L. Stiles to his possible father, Avery Stiles who lived in Chautauqua later. (As found in the 1825 & 1835 N.Y. State Census Records, Hanover Township; also the 1830 Federal Census Record.) According to our record of his birth, acquired from the Stiles Family of America genealogy society, Benjamin Locke Stiles was born October 22, 1804 in New York. The SFA is not certain that Avery Stiles is Ben's father, but is the best prospect according to what has been found at this time. What I have on these two men is as follows: The Reverend David Brown (of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredonia) performed the marriage for Benjamin Stiles and my 3-great grandma in 1823. They were listed in church records as Ben Styles and ---- (Betsey) Moore. According to newspaper "New York Censor" (Fredonia)of March 24, 1824, Benjamin Stiles married Betsey Moore on March 18 of that year. According to his obituary printed on April 6, 1904 in the Watseka (Illinois) Republican Newspaper, Wilfred Stiles, son of Ben Stiles, was born in Fredonia on December 29, 1827. The Fredonia "(New York) Censor" Newspaper ran an obituary on Oct. 2, 1839 for: "Standish R. Stiles died at Abingdon IL on August 29, 1839. He was son of Benjamin Stiles, formerly of Fredonia." The 1830 Federal Census Record for the County of Chautauqua (Pomfret, page 422, Roll: M19_86) lists our Benjamin Stiles, as do both the 1825 & 1835 New York State Census Records. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Diane Stiles Redondo Beach, CA
