I came in to see if anyone had information about one of their children, Dorchie, and if anyone knows the (possable) story, that during the Civil War Thomas, for unknown reasons, was hidden by a family, and Dorchie was the lady of the houses' name. This is the information that I have regarding Thomas and Eliza...... Henry County Tennessee Marriage Certificate Thomas Stiles and Eliza Reynolds were united by D. Bowden, JP in the holy bonds of matrimony on the 16th day of December in the year of our lord 1852 as it appears of record in Marriage Record Book 1833-1860 page 581. The family group sheet information that I have for Dorchie Celesta Stiles states her birthday as 7/15/1863 in Henry County. If anyone would like copies of the groupsheet or marriage certificate Im happy to share. Please e mail me at [email protected] with your name, adress, etc.

Sincerely yours, James E. Whitney,II ---------------------------- Hello, The information I got was copied by an elderly cousin from at least one old family Bible - unfortunately, the list I was given only has the couples' names and their marriage dates on it - nothing further (the Bible may not have any further information in it anyway). I have two transcripts here (despite the file names, I'm not sure if they're both from the same Bible or not) - will attach a scan of each to this letter - don't know if they will be much help to you. If you think this might be the same couple, I will add your information to my database. It's always good to be able to fill in more boxes. We are probably related. My great grandmother, Grace May FERO (1874-1945) was the daughter of Christopher FERO (b. 1825) and Adelia STILES (b. ca. 1830). I have some information on the FERO family, but little on the STILES line other than the family BIBLE list and some grave markers I photographed on a visit to Waterford Rural Cemetery last summer (see the following web page): http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~treebz65/cemeteries/new_york/saratoga/waterford_rural_cem/waterfordrural.html I seem to have several relatives in that cemetery - just not sure yet how the FERO and STILES ones that I found connect onto my family tree. The Stiles and Palmer families are totally interwoven. Joshua Palmer, son of Rev. Joshua Palmer b. 9 Nov 1784 in NC married Francis "Fanny" Stiles, daughter of Richard Stiles and Elizabeth Glidewell of Virginia later North Carolina. The Stiles and Glidwell families migrated with the Reverand Joshua Palmer from Laurens Creek, SC (as members of his congregation) to Ohio west of Cincinnati and settled at West Liberty, Union County, Indiana. The Stiles and Palmers continued migrating together across Indiana to Sullivan County, Missouri. I am related through my grandmother, Ada Evelyn Palmer, (married G. C. Cover and daughter of John Runion Palmer (Sullivan County, Missouri and later Nebraska). Joshua Palmer and Fannie Stiles were my 3-g-grandparents through their son Elihu Palmer, b 1805 Laurens Co, SC, who married Amy Armstrong. b, 3 sept 1814 Liberty Township, SC and died 13 Oct 1901, Gandy, Nebraska. Amy was Elihu Palmer's first cousin - her mother was Rebecca Stiles (sister of Fannie Stiles), father James Amstrong. So her grandmother and grandfather were Richard Stiles and Elizabeth Glidwell. Evidently marrying first cousins was considered okay in those days, especially the families in and of the Virginia landowners. We are probably cousins as well if you have the Stiles connection. Hi All, Just thought I'd mention that I saw the Styles name in the Maryland Calendar of Wills volumes. There are at least 8 of them that I know of. I do believe one of them was a Nathaniel Styles. These are back in the time span of the 1600 or earliest of the 1700's. Ellen

Hi Pat, long time. Well I spent 5 days early in the summer in Ohio visiting varius libraries, even went over to Ft Wayne. Am still having no luck connecting Ben Stiles to his past. Cousin Don Moses and I toured all of the cemeteries in Ohio where Stiles and Elliotts are buried, starting with Sam Elliott in Licking Co. Actually didn't add very much to the data base. Fact is, Somehow my data base does not contain you and lineage. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 16, 2004 5:26 AM Subject: Re: Benjamin Stiles/Jemima Elliott > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/jdJBAEB/577.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Hi Owen, > > Been sometime since I have heard from you! my computer has been booted three times, and lost a lot of my data..Have you had any luck on your research?? > > Do you still have your stiles website?? if so would love to be invited!! > as always pat Napier Harlan county, Kentucky > > > ==== STILES Mailing List ==== > This STILES list is currently available for adoption! > Interested in becoming the list manager?
