    2. FACT OF THE DAY Mary Queen of Scots was executed at Fotheringay Castle on this day in 1587, after being held prisoner by her cousin Elizabeth I of England for 18 years. Mary had originally sought sanctuary in England after her rule in Scotland ended in disaster but Elizabeth had produced no Protestant heirs to the throne of England and she regarded Mary, next in line to the throne and a Catholic, as a threat to the future of her kingdom. Elizabeth is said to have cried with remorse after Mary was beheaded. heritage.scotsman.com http://heritage.scotsman.com/timelines.cfm?cid=1&id=41522005 ........................................... It was Lord Boyd that had been Mary's confidant for the 25 years she had been locked away in the Tower. As I recall, and it should be verified, he is the one who held and delivered her letter she wrote the night before she died. Yours Aye, Lauren Mary Boyd List Admin
