Kanesville, Kane (Illn) not Iowa. Married TAYLOR, John 3 Apr 1865 d. 1 Sep 1914. Other issues. I cannot find my ref. on Mormon Battalion at this time, but i believe Pvt James & Pvt Benjamin Stewart were part of that unit. You will find a treasure of info in that small book (Mormon Battalion) and how the US Govt and Army systemically tried to kill off this voluntary Unit. The Unit was assembled due to an agreement between Brigham Young and the US Govt, US Army. The Units design was to cut the road to California from Pueblo, Colorado in exchange for not entering the Civil War. The road ended in a celebration years later on Olvera Street, now the oldest surviving street in Los Angeles. Another alternative was the Gov. of Kansas volunteered his J-Hawkers to seak out and slaughter all the Mormons(as I remember it). As for the Kansas interests, The Golden Jubilee (on line) of 1926 celebrating the German-Russian Settlements of Ellis and Rush Counties, I descend from these Herrmans. as well as these Stewarts.
