    1. 1841/51 Census Reconstruction, No. Ireland

    3. Hello all, This information was sent to me by someone subscribed to the Derry List (No. Ireland). There is an 1841/1851 census reconstruction available online. Basically it says the census information comes from the time when the Old Age Pension Act was introduced in 1908. Because individuals applying for the pension did not have birth certificates to prove their age, the pension office used census data to find the applicant with his or her family and verify age. These census searches could be done because at the time, the censuses still existed (they were later lost in 1922). The census information for the applicant was recorded, and this is what still exists today. Sometimes the data is brief, and other times the whole family was recorded. It is not a complete picture of the whole census because it is based only on those who applied for a pension. The web site that offers this pension record/census information online is http://www.pensear.org/main.php . You can search the index for free, and if you find someone whose record you want to see, you can get it by email for a small fee of £1. I don't know if all the records have been transcribed, but the site says there are almost 20,000 records. I thought this might especially be of interest for Stewarts: there are 198 with that spelling, and one of the people that came up was Rachel Stewart nee BOYD (Londonderry) which may be something Lauren would want to check out. Also 11 Stuarts and 2 Stewards. Mary Mary Kyritsis Kifissia, Greece
