Is there any way you can tell me if I am on the right track? ----- You have 3 good censuses ahead of Elizabeth's birth to check. The first thing I do is try to find clues how people met, i.e. where did John Smerdon live, in the same town or elsewhere? Track down Charles R. and Helen Stewart in the later censuses too, to see whether they moved and where. And if you're lucky, and it does happen, perhaps some of the grandparents lived with the Smerdon family on later censuses. And of course try to find where you can get the marriage licence for Elizabeth and John Smerdon. I think the 20th century ones did give parents' names. Good luck!
