Dear Listers: Based on off list comments the other day, I thought this post would be a good example to use to show you how to find the beginning of a gatewayed post's thread in the easiest manner. I am cross posting to all the Stewart lists that I admin, as there are likely others that scratch their heads and wonder what the original discussion was about when they see the gatewayed posts midstream or toward the end. Note the URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 This poster chose to post to the Ancestry "side" of the boards. if you prefer to only view via Rootsweb, then change the "an" to "rw" Putting a bit of "air" in so you can spot it easier: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/ an /AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/ rw /AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 This is what the URL would look like to take you to the very same post but viewed with the Rootsweb "skin" http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 To get to the beginning of the thread/discussion you will change the number http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/ 5537.1.1.1 to http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/ 5537 eliminating the #.#.# series, which shows the number of responses, and their placement, to the original. So..... http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537.1.1.1 would become http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AmJBAIB/5537 or for the Rootsweb side: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/5537 and will bring you to Paula Melnyk's original post from 02 December 2002.
