That's funny because I grew up in NJ, as did my mom. My dad grew up in the western states. As an adult I have lived in TX, AZ, WY, and FL. My cousins in OR note my Eastern accent, but when I visit my relatives in NJ they comment on my 'funny accent'. Go figure. LOL Lynn I think it is funny too!! I came out 61% Dixie!! Lived all my life, but 9 years in CA, here in MN. Father first generation out of Bohemia, born here, his mother born here 3rd generation from Ireland. Mother second generation out of Ireland on father's side, born here, her mother was born in England. My husband's parents were born Russia, he was born here, spent 8 years in Chicago as a child, and 9 years in CA as an adult, no southern influence from him either. However, I think that alot of that is going by the wayside now with all the national and international TV, and will continue to do so in the future. In the past we learned our speech patterns from our parents and extended family, but now with so much TV being watched by kids those patterns are being influenced by that and colloquialisms are being decimated left and right by the influence of TV.
