I never thought of Charles and Hannah Kirk Stewart`s line as Quaker`s. Plus, you would have found them by now in Hinshaws books, they kept good records and I think your friend at the NC archives would have discovered that after all these years. This particular line was in Orange and Alamance CO NC, Orange Co was so huge at one time. The lady that wrote to you was correct, most were married by banns and they are not to be found. If not Quaker, and prior to the Rev War in NC and VA, all those married outside the Church of England were considered living in fornication. I don `t know how heavy the presence was in Cumberland/Wake of the Anglican Church though, they must have had a Vestry and Glebe. You might want to check with your friend on that, ask him if those counties as Vestries. I know Surry CO NC did. Teresa
