The father and mother of Elizabeth Gregg were James Gregg and his wife Elizabeth Stewart. They were married 5 Jan 1826 in Fountain Co. IN. It is believed that Jane, came to the US when she was about 5 years of age from Ireland. We have placed her birth about 1800-1808. Jane died about 1844 in Dekalb Co. MO, after the birth of her twins, and is buried in the Wamsley Cemetery at Cameron, MO. Jane (Stewart) and her husband James Gregg had the following children. (Bible records of her oldest girl) 1} Harriet Gregg, born 11 Oct 1826 IN. died 26 Sept 1908 MO. married John W. Dice 19 Sept 1844. She and John raised her younger siblings which are found in their household in the 1850 Census. 2} Samuel Gregg born 22 Oct 1828 in IN said to have fought in the CW on the union side. No other information. 2} Sarah Gregg born 18 Oct 1830 IN married first Washington Fergeson/Furgeson, who died c 1858 married second, James Anderson Smith 19 Sept 1859 in KeDalb Co. MO. She likely died by soon after the marriage, possibly in child birth. 4} James A. Gregg born 1 Oct 1832 in IN. in the 1850 he was 17 years of age. Speculation that he may be the Father of James Gregg who married an Ellen and the grandfather of John William Gregg who was born in Cameron Mo in 1885. 5} Mary Gregg born 20 Jan 1836 in IN, died 1 Feb 1915. She married the widower of he sister Jesse Anderson Smith. and both died in Guthrie, Logan Co. OK. Bur. in the Summit View Cemetery. 6} Jane Gregg born 1 Dec 1837 US 1850 was 11 years old. No information. 7} Elizabeth Gregg born 6 May 1840 MO. died 28 Feb 1906 Los Angeles CA. bur: Rosedale Cemetery. Mar: 17 Mar 1859 DeKalb Co MO John Alexander Smith 8}0 Charles William Gregg born 3 June 1862 DeKalb Co. Mo. A twin, said to have died at age 7 years. 9} Mariah Carolina Gregg born 3 June 1862. A twin, said to have married 13 Nov 1862 Wm. H. Bradford. I have lawsuit papers filed in IN which started in 23 Aug 1844, for James Gregg vs. Thomas Poyer. In additional papers, still referring to the lawsuit, are given the names of his children. It is believed that James, died about 1844-45, as daughter Harriet is mentioned as the wife of John Dice. and Sarah the wife of Washington Furgeson. However I have no idea from whence either James Gregg or his wife Jane Stewart came from. It is possible that Jane may have been the daughter of Alexander Stewart found in the US 1830 in Vermillion IN. It is also possible that it is this Alexander who arrived in NY on the Perseverance, 6 Apr 1811, with him were his wife Jane Sr. Jane Jr. and William all from Dunsmurry, Belfast Ireland. Any information I have gather on the Stewart or Gregg families will gladly share. Gloria Padach Laguna Beach, CA seamore2@cox.net
