Surnames: Stewart, Barron Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/7288 Message Board Post: I found a possible ancestry for John Stewart, w/p 1826, Edgefield, SC. It’s a biography in an old book called “Biographical Souvenir of the States of Georgia and Florida”, published in 1889. An article in this book is called “Rev. J.L. Stewart”. These Stewarts are said to be descended from the House of Stuart. Archibald Stewart left Scotland in the 1700’s and emigrated to Northern Ireland due to religious persecution. He settled in Londonderry. He married twice (no wives’ names were given) and had 6 sons: John, Samuel, Joseph, William, Archibald, and Alexander. These boys came to Lancaster, PA, then moved to York, SC. Later, they settled in Morgan County, GA, and in AL. Alexander married Elizabeth Barron. His son Alexander was the father of Rev. J.L. Stewart. On Ancestry.com’s pedigree charts, I found a Rev. J.L. Stewart who was John Lewis Stewart, b. Sept. 10, 1810 York District, SC, d. April 30, 1886 Conyers,! GA. I noticed in the will of John Stewart (of Edgefield) that all the boys’ names are the same as all the sons of Archibald Stewart (John had a son named Archibald, too). If anyone out there is descended from John Stewart, this may be worth looking into.
I am from the family of Alexander Stewart and his first wife Hannah Templer. This is through son Dr. John S. and wife Eliz Alburtis. Alexander's 2nd wife was Deborah Rediat. Wayne A.
