I am researching my Stewart line in early Haywood county, TN. I have traced my line back to a Malissa Stewart (through her son Hamblin) in the 1840 Haywood County Census. The census lists: Malissa 40 - b. 1799 NC Hamblin 5 - b. 1835 TN Martha 4 - b. 1836 TN Mary 4 - b. 1836 TN James 2 - b. 1838 TN Harriet 1 - b. 1839 TN Louisa <1 - b. 1840 TN The 1830 census does not list any Stewart's in Haywood county so they probably arrived in the early 1830s. Her husband may have died in 1839 or 1840 since he is not listed in the 1840 census. At any rate, coming forward there never is a husband listed for Malissa and she never remarried. There never were any additional children. My family believes Malissa was a full blooded Cherokee indian. I am looking for any information about this family, but would really like to find out who Malissa's husband was. Thanks, Bryan
