    3. Hi Gini, If you go from Tuscaloosa, AL eastward to Gainesville, AL, and cross the border into MS, you will be in Scooba in less than an hour. Highway 16, I think. The significance of the area is the 1830-1832 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, and the new availability of land to buy, as well as the projection for a railroad to pass through the area. In other words, it was one of the next steps in the westward expansion, and MANY folks from TN and AL, perhaps as well as GA SC NC VA, etc., headed for the new promised land. Some of the earlier AL/TN land speculators and even some of the surveyors did a casual boot scoot into the middle of MS. This W. H. Stuart is a little intriguing, as there was also a W. H. Stuart in Marion Co, AL during the early settlement of Marion / Fayette Counties, AL. It's hard to tell who's who in many cases. My ancestors moved to Scooba around 1833, having settled first for some years in Marion, Fayette, Tuscaloosa, and Perry Counties, AL. When I strolled through the cemetery in Scooba, finding my ancestors buried there, I noted that there was at least one, if not more, Stewart's from the Fayette/Marion County, AL, area, buried there as well. Cheers, Dick Stewart =-==-=-=-= There must be thousands of Robert Stuarts, but my ggggrandfather was one, so my interest perks up. Where is Scooba? 3. Thank you, Dick. And pray tell - what is a boot scoot? Gini > Some of the earlier AL/TN land speculators and even some of the surveyors > did a casual boot scoot into the middle of MS.
