Interesting! My ggg-grandfather Alexander Stewart named his first son John Martin Stewart. Alexander married Elizabeth Downs in 1795 in Nelson Co KY. So the Martin didn't come from her, so maybe it was Alexanders mothers maiden name? Then again maybe he just liked it. He moved to Adams Co IL with several of his grown, married kids, then some stayed there, a couple went to Iowa and my gg-grandfather went to Ralls Co MO.
