Surnames: Stewart, Turnbull Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AmJBAIB/7108.1.1.1 Message Board Post: HI we have a John Stewart, also born 1828, but in Dundee, Angus, who also disappeared. There are rumours of a family disinheritance earlier than that. There were also rumours he threw a sailor overboard in a fit of temper and fled maybe to West Indies or USA, fearing for his life. He was a ship's captain. He was born John Sturrock Turnbull, and most of his siblings (Turnbulls) changed their surname 'back' to Stewart circa 1850s. John's parents were David Turnbull, shipwright, (actually also a Stewart), and Isabella Stewart, daughter of William Stewart, Weaver, of Dundee, and not a cousin or relative except by marriage, we understand. When John left, or fled, he apparently left behind a wife and children...but these are all just fragments of rumours. All documentation was stolen in the 1920s.
